A US woman who thought she had won $43m (£28m) on a slot machine has been told it was a mistake.
The Fortune Valley Casino in Central City, Colorado, told Louise Chavez from Denver the machine had "malfunctioned."
It is now unlikely she will see a penny of the dream jackpot.
When the lights and bells went off, Ms Chavez, who earns about $12,000 a year as a carer, thought she had hit the big time.
"All of a sudden I saw the light come on on top of the machine," Ms Chavez told ABC's Good Morning America.
"I'm like, 'Oh, my God! Oh, my God!' I'd never had this feeling before in my life, never."
However, gaming officials investigating the incident reckon it was probably just an unfortunate computer glitch.
Ms Chavez, who was celebrating her birthday, said all she ended up with was a free room for the night, some food and the original $20 she had put into the machine.

Lol Casino bastards.

isnt supposed that the numer one rule of a casino is "the house allways wins"?

honestly I dont feel that bad to the people who get addicted to gambling or lose money in it

Well that just sucks for the woman. If their slot machine paid out the money they should give he the damn money!

I'd be seeing those mother****ers in court. Bitches, you better pay up.

lol sneaky casino.

Hope she gets the money!

So, if you win, the computer has made an error.

I now understand why you can't win in slot machines? It's rigged! Rigged so that there's no chance of winning save for a computer error!

Yeah, I'm sure they have a squadron of Lawyers to shut the deal up tight.

Has the casino proved it was a mistake? They probably aren't making very much money right now and they don't want to dole out $43mil.

the machine is broken, it's taken all my money!
no it's not
this machine is great, it's given me all the money!
no it's broken

lol. Precisely.

With the amount of monies spent on gambling myself and those I know usually come out on top. If I lose $10 I lose $10 and walk away but more often I gain $100 :D It's the people who you see when you walk in and walk out still on the one machine that make me laugh.

Sucks for the lady.

I went to the casino for the first time just two weeks ago. Worst way to spend 40 bucks ever.

I dunno... if you play right, depending on what game you play, you could make money.

The problem is knowing when to quit.

The first time I went to play craps at the casino(I had already practiced tons beforehand), I doubled the $100 my dad gave me... and everybody at the table was making all kinds of money when I was the shooter. It was an awesome experience.

I kept playing however and ended up even, losing the winnings I had.

That was in the riverboat casinos in Shreveport, too.

I don't understand, was the bug the fact that she won, or the fact that she won 43 million?

Either way, this casino should lose a lot of business because now even if you win, you're not guaranteed to win because they could always just say it was another bug.

And shouldn't the casino have to refund the money everybody else spent playing on that, glitched, slot machine?

Even if it was a legitimate bug, it's THEIR responsibility to maintain all the slots, and if they fail to do that and somebody wins...well that's why they have insurance.

they basically have a machine that accepts money with no possible way of any return. that's their defense. every person who put money into it was cheated and the casino should be held accountable.

****ing assholes

I figure she could have a reasonable lawsuit on to manuever but I doubt she's get the 43 mil. With a good lawyer she could settle for a decent amount I'd bet... no business wants negative publicity and for a casino who's only allure is the chance to get a jackpot, to say "oh well sometimes we don't give you the jackpot" is about as bad as it gets.

I cannot believe she isn't suing the shit out of them.

well thats how casinos work, they let you win a bit so lure you and them bam you are clean and the house wins

and sure the woman isnt suing cuz she knows she wont live till her next birthday

Have fun with the random possibility gain more money.

they should atleats meet her half way or something along those lines.

Then why the hell is she at a Casino?

Who cares? My 83-year-old grandmother lives on that much, and is delighted when she gets to take a day trip to Atlantic City and play $20 on the slot machines. She usually wins a lunch out of it. Spending tons of money isn't a prerequisite at casinos.

Quite.

I tend to go to my local casino for a game of poker, it's a multi table tournament though, £20 entry.

Casinos are good for free food and drink, you just have to know your limits.

Their business is your greed. Nothing more and nothing less.

Oh, and cheating you when you win, i forgot about that.

So I take it I'm weird that I've never once gambled in my life.

Also why bother suing them, when you can arrange an unfortunate "accident" to happen at their casino.

Yep, in the end the house always averages out the win. That's why you need to learn when to quit.

If I lived closer to the Casinos, it wouldn't be a problem. I could go in, and quit early. But when you live a few hours distance, you have the mindset of "need to earn more than the gas money it took getting here and back."

I just sit on electric roulette tables, place $1 bets on Red/Black; then stop when I get $5.

Then I buy a drink and do it again, until I get too drunk to continue my devious plan.
