I'm going to build a new PC soon and want to either get a single 4870 or two 4850 in CF. I wasn't going to bother with CF/SLi but the benchmarks for two 4850 make it look like a worth while investment. My main problem though is I'm trying to do this in a HTPC style case. From what I've heard, the cards are around 9'5 inches long. There is JUST enough space but I can remove the HDD cradle if need be to create a lot more space so this shouldn't be an issue. The HDD can go in the spare 5'25 bay with a mount. I think my PSU will cope OK. It's a Tagan TG500-BZ (500W).
Another problem is heat build-up. I've heard people say they've had problems with heat build-up in HTPC cases due to poor air circulation. My case is a Silvberstone GD01S-MXR. Would water be an solution? I'd rather not bother with it though as it's more tedious to install and maintain while being much more expensive.
Also, could someone recommend me a good HDD? I just need something that's around 250-320GB and quite fast. I don't need so much space as I'll never use it all and I have two external drives to store stuff like music, videos, etc. I'd rather sacrifice space for speed. I was thinking of getting a VelociRaptor but they're a bit pricey here (like 200 pounds, UK).
