Cliché abounds!

Anyone who gets their account stolen through phishing needs to be shot and killed and raped.

In that order? :O

;)

What a ****in copout!

Anyone who loses their Steam acount by having it 'stolen' that way deserves everything they get!

Unfortunately there are a lot of dumb people out there but education on the issue is surely a good thing.

Valve should sue a handful of these account stealers, give them $50k fine or something.

Not the greatest of updates at all.

But they probably just didn't have anything else to write for us, and they did want to release a weekly update so... yea :)

Obviously not everyone is as 1337 as you when it comes to the internet.

'tis common shens. ;)

You don't just give away important information when someone asks for it. Internets or not.

True, but your shot and killed and raped quip was a little much. Yeah, it's a joke, but still.

/me wants a proper update, damn you valve

Who is actually so dumb to give their account info...

Well, everybody isn't as 1337 as me, I guess :)

How long untill the guy sending out fake emails gets a virus yeh think?

bah is this the weekly update? I can understand them wanting to spread the word and caution users on stolen accounts but this is really of no interest to the majority of us. Even if they said VAC 2 is almost done or Lost Coast has progressed since E3 then the update would be worthwhile. actually why not do an E3 roundup? something of interest? Even put a Gabe joke, thatd be better than what we have been given today.

I know alot of ppl who play HL2 would be very young kids, I'd bet some are below the age of 10 and they need to be warned but an update this does not make. disapointing

:waaah:

Bit of common sense stuff really but what happens if someone does steal your Steam ID? Has Valve issued this warning so if someone does manage to hack Steam & people's user accounts (I'm thinking back to the fiasco following the game theft) rather than 'phishing' for information then they just wash there hands of it?

How stupid are some people, really. Valve must think we are all 6 year olds with an IQ vearing to around 40.

No they are probably just sick of having to give back accounts because people are too dumb enough to keep their info on their account secret.

Hey, they can't all be gems. We've gotten a weekly update EVERY WEEK since February. I'd say that means Valve deserves a freebie. At least they bothered to put SOMETHING up.

It never ceases to surprise me how self-centred most forum members are. Yes, this update doesn't apply to you, but you all think that if it doesn't apply to you, it shouldn't exist.

I get the impression that most of you think these e-mails are like this:

hey l0z0r. I r Gabe, reply with ur p/w, plz. lol

And yes, if you fall for that, you are stupid.

But, it's not like that, most phishing e-mails are very professional looking and are. They direct you to a website which looks exactly the same as the website. So, for these Steam ones, it will have the Steam-green background, with black tabs and will have various disclaimer stuff written on it.

Because of the professional look of these scams, the main defence that people have against them is to know about them. It's not stupid if you don't know about phishing, you just don't know. So Valve are telling people, THEREFORE, helping them to notice these scams. This will help a lot of people

So can some of you, please, accept that some people will find this information very useful. And you shouldn't be so upset that Valve didn't release a screenshot of the new CS map or whatever. Not everything revolves around you.

100% agree, couldn't have said it any better.
