$5 trillion dollars?

It boggles my mind how one of the most economically and militarily powerful nations on earth, spends all that money they don't have on a war against a... relatively speaking, tiny and militarily insignificant country. Iraq had a huge standing army, but it dissolved quickly and the war was won quickly, and all these costs are coming after the military has been out of the equation.

I mean... all that money for a country like Iraq. Just think of the costs of any significant war against a country that can fight back well with non nuclear conventional means.

$5 trillion and the cost of oil still sky-rocketed... :/

PS: It's funny what $2 Trillion dollars, and 5 years of occupation get you.

To them, the real crime is that five years after the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq , they still swelter in the summer and freeze in the winter because of a lack of electricity. Government rations are inevitably late, incomplete or expired. Garbage piles up for days, sometimes weeks, emanating toxic fumes.

The list goes on: black-market fuel, phone bills for land lines that haven't worked in years, education and health-care systems degraded by the flight of thousands of Iraq's best teachers and doctors.

They could have payed off each and every Iraqi citizen 160 000 dollars to not fight them.

my first pc I purchased? 1995: apple powermac 7200 ..it had a 75mhz cpu with 8mbs of ram ..it cost me almost $500 to upgrade the ram from 8mbs to 16mbs ..I think the total with monitor came out to be in the ballpark of $5000

They could have payed off each and every Iraqi citizen 160 000 dollars to not fight them.
And if the citizens put all that money together, they could have found a cure against cancer!

Just think. We could have paid off Doctor Evil fifty times with that much money.

50 times!

Conventional war is what the US military is good at, which is why the war proper was won so quickly. What they're NOT good at, quite obviously, is nation rebuilding and asymmetric urban warfare. I believe that is where the majority of the costs are coming from.

They could have payed off each and every Iraqi citizen 160 000 dollars to not fight them.

From what I understand, the Iraqis aren't the only ones they have to worry about.

which wasnt a problem during saddam's time

5 trillion huh? meh, shouldnt have voted a puppet into the oval office ..twice no less

Well lets see, the first time around I was too young to vote, and the second time I voted for that asshat Kerry specifically to vote against Bush. This coming election is going to be one of the most important concerning the well being of the US, so I hope the media drones don't fuck it up.

At this point I'm strongly supporting Obama. Hilary has fake written all over her. It's quite clear that the only thing she cares about is winning, and she'll even break the rules to do so. Before the primaries began I was rooting for Kucinich though. At least he kept his seat in congress.

I agree most with Ron Paul but I would probably vote for Obama because Ron Paul can't actually win.
