50,000 man servers in 2010!

They already have games with thousands of players...they're called MMO(RPG)s.
But that would be nice to have that much broadband

Yes!!! I can't wait for those 10,000 player CS:S3 servers. Huge maps with tons of places for your awpers to go pwn sum fnoobs!!!

This ,50,000 Players, feature would be kick ass in a game like San Andreas.

your HDD would have to write at 1.25 GB/s. right now most write at 50 MB/s. The raid raptor setup might get 120 MB/s. so to utilize that, HDDs will have to raise the RPMs to ungodly speeds. That amount of data isnt necessary at least right now. If the technology can handle that speed in six years though, we will all be in for a treat.

Sweet, your harddrive could spin so fast it would create a vortex and spin the whole universe into oblivion!

Well that does seem like alot, but you also have to scale the complexity of games. It's possible (hopefully) input devices will change by then and the amount of information required to follow the activity of one player could skyrocket.

just a simple addition to a HDD but command queing alone (Effectivly software) can increase HDD speed 4 fold. http://www.tomshardware.com/storage/20040820/hitachi-maxtor-01.html

Now thats a theoretical maximum, but thats the way these things are developed. The technology gets steadily faster, then one day someone says, hey I know, wouldn't it be great if... and the whole shooting match takes a leap forward.

Also, you can use a raid style set up with several disks acting as one, so that data can be written at the speed of the disks * the number of disks.

And I thought standing alone against a 30 man rush BF1942 was bad (has happened to me), never mind 25.000....

Edit: The comps will probubly be so powerfull that the aliens will invade us just to steal our computer hardware.

Those games are not true FPS games though. They are semi-turn/time based.

They dont rely on reactions and low latency.

You can play a mmorpg with a 300 ping and not even notice.

Planetside?

'The Japanese government......................NOT THE UK.

UK by 2050 will have 100Mbit Home connections..............UK is a slow country

50,000 players + ultra badass minigun=fun!!! lol :rolling:
ok, seriously that would kick ass!

Man, I just came up with a cool idea for CS3, or whatever the ****.

With a 50,000 person server, you could be conducting 100's of parallel maps of 1 campaign, and victories on certain maps for T's or CT's effects the direction the campaign turns in.

You could have a 1000 player storm on 70 dust maps, against a relatively small and unprepared T team.

Cool, no?

I doubt 50,000 people would make sense. Sorting out cheaters would be a nightmare, not to mention communication.
Haha imagin 50,000 people trying to voice chat at once! your ears would explode!!! :O

All of the people playing music over the mic along with little kids bitching on the mic. Then your head would implode.

They would probably do things like local chat, and player to player.
Although, 50,000 teenagers farting down their microphones would be quite something.

Hopefully by 2010 Society would have matured...probley not though.

Hard Drives probably wont even have to spin in 2010. They'll probably change into something like a RAM/ROM hybrid, where you write to it and it stays on until you delete it.

Our harddrives would have to have like.. 100,000 RPMs.

We won't have HDDs in the future n00b, we'll all be using memory sticks because:

A) They're faster
B) They're smaller

;)

I don't know, HDD seems a bit impractical now...it's...machinery, :p By then we'll have 1TB "Data Storage Sticks = DSS". hehe.

Actually Planetside isn't a MMORPG at all, it's a MMOFPS.

Not when it comes to PvP. ;)

Think of the map size "DROOL" :rolling: :E

At least as big as a battlefield...hehe, 50,000 men...

do_battle_la (Domination: Battle for LA)

For that game, we'll need commanders...they would look OVER the battlefield, selecting people and commanding them (if the units would listen :p)

That would be cool as crap to have a commander overseeing an army like that invading a city (LA.. /gets shivers it wold be so sveet) or something... and games would last for days... my... god... i really don't like the mmorpgs of nowadays, but if they were like that with real people as your units, no lag and all that jazz... my social life would be reffered to in the past-tense from the day a game like that came out.

Yeah, it would be interesting to play a strategy game where all the units you are commanding, are actually real people. I guess there would always be annoying people, but...you could just get them arrested by the military police or something :D There is always someone willing to do anything really.

Starcraft 2 anyone? It would be AWESOME, we would have like a 10k unti cap. omg that would be beautiful. currently the 200 cap sucks..

I bet there would be just like.. one or two game servers for a game like future Battlefield series games. And you'd join, then choose what battle/city you want to be at. And the entire country would be simulated (IE: Vietnam)

If you stayed online for like 20 days, you could walk to another city and fight there or something. lmao. That would be awesome.

And Farrow that's kinda like Natural Selection I guess. Hehe.

lol 10gig, only 10 gig. The world has already serpased that mark in bussness and reserch, they gust need to make it cheep enough to do in the home.

Quote from press relese.
"Those who caught the announcement last week that researchers at Stanford Linear Accelerator (SLAC) had broken an Internet land-speed record might be forgiven for expressing a collective shrug. The SLAC'ers announced they had sent 6.7 billion bytes of data at a rate of 1 billon bits, or 1 gigabit, per second over 10,000 kilometers between Sunnyvale, California, and their collaborators at the NIKHEF institute in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, with help from Caltech"

Now that the enternest I want, this is the wave of the future.... even be that a very distant one.

There already is a game that does that, it's called Savage and here's the link:
