You can't possibly be serious. I was looking through the eb games cataloug that I got from the store when I bought swat 4 on thursday. Almost all of the xbox 360 games are 59.99 and the collectors editions for some are 69.99? I don't get it and I'm afraid that they will start charging 59.99 for all new games. Can anyone explain why xbox 360 games will cost so much money?

Because they will lose so much mony on the console itself, they have to make it up in the games surely?

Consider yourself lucky. Hawaii's been paying 60 bucks a game for a long time now.

Yeah poor you, we only have to pay $80-90 equivalent in the UK.

Actually development costs are rising... FAST and so they need to raise the prices of games.

So unfair that we get a 1:1 conversion rate :(
I'd have so much more games if they did it properly.

Actually, $60.00 isn't bad at all. I was expecting $80 or $90. Think about it.

PS1 games = $30.
PS2 games = $50.
PS3/Next gen = $60.

Not too bad of a jump.

Take general inflation into account as well... That's one reason the production cost "rises" so they charge more... the dollar is worth a little less and less every year.

This was the case with the original XBOX as well. But, as mentioned earlier, dev costs are going up and up and money isn't going to fill their pockets from out of nowhere.

if im gunna pay $60 for a game, these dev teams better make it right cuz I have no source of income (actually im just not compelled to work at wendies) and It better have replay value. Either that or I will join the pirateing fun, YArRrRrR

All the more reason to buy directly from the authors if possible. I've no problem paying these prices for the games because I've a decent idea how much time and effort goes into making them. I do have a problem when these price hikes go into a middleman's pockets.

tis true, there is a lot (oh hella lot) of work that goes into games, but with all the work going on, youd think they should get it right. i still dont want to pay $60 for "trigger man" put it in the bargin bin

Am, it's €60 over here and I think that that's slightly more than $60

Inflation. Games just keep going up. One day we'll be paying $100 and not think twice.

Personally, I actually think they'd make more money charging 20 bucks for them. With prices that cheap, people would be free to buy far more games...
on second thought, maybe not. Sure would be nice though.

I remember street fighter 2 turbo on the snes costing about £80

Star Wars episode 3 costed more to make than any game out there yet they only charge $20 for a DVD. Even if you count all the movie tickets. It adds up to around $30. But for some reason the game industry insists on raising up the costs of games.

Eh??! The highest price for a stand-alone game (no extra hardware or whatever included) I have ever seen in the UK is £59.99, for both Sonic 3 and Donkey Kong Country 3...

yea i remember I paid alot for that one the day it came out.

You know whats funny?
Nintendo 8-bit cartrige games were selling for like $80 when games like Ice Climber were new. (before the first ever Zelda came out) The NES was HOT.

I have never paid more than $55 dollars for a game and probably never will. The good games are usually cheaper anyway.

What I will do, I will buy all the Microsoft Studio's games first. At 49$ each.

That will keep me busy.
When im looking for a new game, there will be new microsoft games released by then, along with all of the 59$ games now sell used for $49 or less.

**** that shit. Dont pay that $60. Glad This isn't a Gaystation3. get ready for possible sticker shock3    I heard the games might cost $69 .. with system lock to boot!

I remember paying close to $90 (US) for Chrono Trigger when it first hit the states and if any game was worth it, that was it. Still, I can at least understand cartridges being more expensive because of all the hardware in them.

I have been very fickle in deciding what games to get this generation. I haven't bought many for the full $50 that they usually cost, but the ones I have were well worth it. I see that same thing happening with the next generation. I have no problem paying $60 or even $70 a game as long as it lives up to its hype...I just wish more of the money could go to the developers and not the publishers necessarily.

PCs and digital distribution is the way devs will begin to see more of what they have truly earned in my estimation. Not quite so with the consoles yet I am afraid. ;(

Me too, but the price did include a console too.

Wait a few months. Prices will drop down to more reasonable levels. Who cares if it some game is "t3h h0t sh1t" if you pay an arm and a leg for it. Just wait a bit for the hype to cool off and you save yourself 20 or so bucks. Besides, I usually buy games used from guys who buy them brand new, get tired of them quick, and decide to load them off on someone less idiotic than they are.

see i wouldnt mind paying $60 for a game like oblivion, i mean i'll play that game forver, that is BY FAR worth 60 bucks. but other games, i think it will kill them.

Most ps1 games were $40-$50.

Ok I have been unable to find and Xbox 360 game that cost over $59.99 on Gamestops site. Also I have 10 games preordered and all of them where only $59.99 plus tax. Perhaps that magazine is misprinted or something because I never heard anything about any of the 360 games costing more then $59.99. In fact I heard that all Microsoft published games where only going to be $49.99 (aside from collectors editions).

PC Games usually cost around $40 here. BF2 was slightly over $30 I think.

Not that I'm aware of. People may say it's rising, but with the ever increasing technology development becomes increasingly less complicated, although you're right, it is understandable that the artwork required (not to mention coding for the PS3) may be quite cataclysmic.

Yeah. Most new games that hit the shelves on the current consoles start at like 60$, so I don't think it's very high of a price.

WTF is everyone bitching about? When N64 and PS1 came out, nearly all the new games were 60$

Depends on the game... it's still $50 here, but sometimes $30... the 'classics' are going for $10, including HL1, Deus Ex, Morrowind...

You can't even find classics in stores here, there's tiny one I know of that stocks a fair collection of old games but they charge insane prices, $30 for HL1 anyone?

Used games go down to like $4.99 at the lowest, but used games for new consoles like 360 will sell for only $5 reduced price(like $55 instead of $60). sorta not even worth it? idk check the disc

NEW but platinum hits, or greatest hits were selling for $19.99 but they may ask a little more this time around

59.99$! Rip-off!

And I guess we lucky fins get the good old conversion, so it will cost 59.99€ here.

Imo 60$ is way too much for a game. You buy five games and you just paid the price of the console... Mod chips here I come.

quake 4 collecters edition cost €69.99 here. thats so close to €100 its scarey

I have a question. When HAVENT new games for a brand new console cost 60$

Can't you like, get them cheap or something?

Games from high street shops in Britain cost 35-45 pounds (70-90 dollars) but you can get them for £25 if you order them off the internets.
