I don't really think there is any point in having a character limit (except 1 character limit to make sure they have said something). If someone was going to enter less than 6 chars but was stopped by the limit, they just write "6 char limit" or something at the end of their post. So it's pointless

if you have to add random letters, or say "6char" at the end of your post to make it long enough... shouldn't that tell you something?

The limit is there to cut down on spam/useless posts, like "lol" or "hehe". If your post doesn't make the limit, odds are you shouldn't waste db space posting it.

I think that one's, To Be Honest... you can usually work them out with context, though I try not to use anything other than the occasional LOL. I can understand chat room lingo in a chatroom where time is an issue, but what's the point in being so quick with message boards? Unless you're TDE, but he has a high post rate to maintain
