I'm wondering what people with a 64-Bit OS use for their web browser. I guess you have a choice whether you want to run a 32-Bit or 64-Bit browser.

The 64-Bit Internet browsers don't seem to be ready for prime time.

Last I heard, Adobe doesn't have a 64-Bit version of Flash, and 32-Bit Plug-ins won't work on a 64-Bit build either:

Firefox.

There are only like three plug-ins I use anyway and they're all supported by 64bit. Flash works perfectly fine.

I've decided to be cautious. There is just too much software and drivers that don't work yet on 64Bit. I'm going to dual boot XP 32Bit pro and Windows 7 64Bit using two partitions.

If Windows XP is installed first, when you install 7 on a separate partition, the dual boot option will appear automatically when the computer boots up. (requires full version of Windows 7, not an upgrade)

You can have a 64bit OS and a 32bit browser (normal experience on the web with all your plugins you are used to).

Yeah, thanks. It's not really about that. I mean - if firefox and MS ie and Chrome abd Adobe don't have fully working 64Bit internet explorer software, yet - what do you think about all the little guys? China's expansion card driver support team... Lol.

All of my stuff must work. For example, reportedly, I can't flash my [particular] bios in a 64 bit environment. I'm not sure if my wireless will work (obscure device with no drivers). I'm not sure if my eSATA PCIe card will work, etc.

I'd rather have a contingency plan to fall back on, just in case the XP virtual machine can't do it.

You know? I don't know what I'm getting into. It can't hurt, except to waste some space. Plus I can always delete the partition later, or simply set 'the time to select OS' to a couple seconds and automatically boot go into Win7. I could also have 3 (or more) OS installed. XP 32, Win7 32, and Win7 64.

64x browsers seem to hate my system, so I never did use them. :)

The only incompatibility issue that ever bugged me with XP 64 was not being able to play old games with supposed XP fixes. Even when I try XP 32 compatibility.

Other than that, I can't even remember one thing that didn't work on my OS due to it not being 64 bit.

This. And I'm using W7 on a laptop with a buggy wireless card. I've found most 32 bit XP drivers work on 64 Vista7.

Virus, out of sheer curiosity, where do you get all your info? Everything you've said in the past week has been a bit... off. And fatalist.

You mean you rely on flashing while in Windows? I would think if you are paranoid about everything working that you would really want to have a working floppy drive that you could pop into your system for flashing via DOS on floppy which is much more safe.

But I know what you mean about compatibility and XP (32bit). But if you have Win7 64bit then you can test! D:
After that works out (if) what do you need a contingency plan for?

I'm using my 32 XP. Got the wireless working

Win 7 64 Bit, the installation of my wireless drivers fails every time. I don't know what else to try.

It's a good thing I have both OS, or I'd have no internet until I buy a new card! It's like living in the stone age without internets! I feel so isolated. It's like prison.

Windows 7 is so tight though, can't wait to get that worked out.

All I've done for the past couple weeks is research my new build/new OS. So I've heard a lot of horror stories.

I've never used Windows 7 (or Vista for that matter), I've never used 64 bit, I've never built a computer before, etc. So, forgive me but I was very worried and stressed. I don't think I've been a bit off on anything though. I guess I'm just being a pessimist (half-empty)... lol because I want a full glass, not half full.

Yeah, also I thought the CPU had pins...

Honestly, I got lucky. The extra CPU fan wire was wrapped around the fan, and prevented it from moving. I was watching with the cover off at first boot up. Boy was I gutted until I figured it out. Obviously I turned it off immediately, but

CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT UFKCING SHIT GOD DAMN.

/is a noob that needs glasses.

It had little holders to route the extra wire, but the guard is too short on that cheap fan, and on one little section, it rode up the edge a little.
