Hi all, Ive finally narrowed down my gfx card upgrade from my old Geforce 4 Ti4200 64mb to either a 6600gt or a sapphire 9800 pro atlantis. They're both around the same price apparently, though I have yet to see the 6600 GT in AGP format yet. Which would you reccomend for General games (NVidia tends to do better with) and which would be better for HL2? Thanks ahead

Edit: crap your right I thought this was Hardware my bad move if needed.

with cureent beta ati drivers, the 9800 wins.
the 6600 is direct competition for the 9800 IMHO.

9800 Pro is available and is a solid card.
The 6600GT AGP is not yet available. The PCI Express version is a good card and at 200$ is a good price. But are you buying now or then?

6600 gt will be a good card will run doom high settings at 46 fps

When is the AGP version of the 6600 coming out? basically I wasnt planning on buying a card for a while, I can wait a month or 2 if I need to.
Maybe by then they'l come out with an AGP version of the x700 pro, that another card I liked, at least the hybrid sapphire edtion, but they're all PCI-E.

just do a google search, there are a lot of reviews on the 6600gt with the 9800xt used as a comparison. In all the reviews i have read the 6600gt blows away the 9800pro and even beats the new x700pro for everything but vertex shader heavy tests. the 6600gt in my opinion is THE budget card of the moment.
dont forget that the 6600 is based on the 6800 and really has been cut down in the pixel shader pipelines but due to clever management of memory it is still more capable than the last generation top of the range, the 9800pro would be a poor investment at this time in my opinion.

ok thanks very much for the info, looks like Ill be getting a 6600 GT!
