There is an Asus V9999 Gamer Edition(or something like that) Geforce 6800 floating around. Get that one. It is the same price as the regular 6800, but has more memory and has the memory clocked higher. A great deal, if I may add.

As a general rule of thumb, the 6800 will pretty much beat the 9800 Pro in all tests, except where memory bandwith is important (ie - high resolutions with AA and AF enabled).

[Edit]: Forgot the obligatory benchmark

I've only seen the Asus GE ones for the price of a GT, around $400. If you've found them for the price of a vanilla 6800, please show me!

Isn't the 6800 better contested against the X800?

Forgive my ignorance if I'm mistaken...

The 6800 GT is better contested with the X800 Pro. In this case, the 6800 GT is slightly faster than the X800 Pro.

If you compare the X800 Pro to the 6800, the X800 Pro annihilates it.

Gotcha.

9800XT then? I assume the 6800 is a step above that, and [obviously] one below the 6800GT..?

Just watch out as there seems to be some confusion with the 6800 models.

Nothing much to worry about though.

The 256mb Asus gamer version cost almost as much as a 6800GT!! I would get the vanilla 6800, its loads better than the 9800p due to having 4 more rendering pipelines and newer architecture

nvm. I thought that it was priced the same as a 6800. I stand corrected. :O

Ah, man... well, let me ask somebody this: do you think the 6800GT will have dropped in price some by xmas? Maybe to at least $350?

Possibly. It really is going to depend on market demand for these new high end video cards. Right now, market demand is still high which is causing the prices to stay high.

Hopefully, enough cards should be on the market by December to lower prices somewhat.
