What is with the 6800s that are on new egg for under $300? Is there somthing wrong with them? Are they not worth the money? Should I get one?

What... Are you so used to these cards being above what Retail is suggested to be?
That's how everything used to be before the X800XT's and 6800U's.
There is nothing wrong with these 6800's.

For example, an ATI 9800 Pro used to be 399$ in your local stores but newegg sold them for 350$ and even below once apon a time.

The only reason the X800XT's and 6800U's were priced so high online is because they don't follow the suggested prices much and they were really high in demand, with all the back orders and such. With high demand and low supply brings really high prices. Otherwise they are actually lower than instore pricing.
 
I have the radeon 9800 right now, I bought it about 4 months ago for $200, my dad will pay me $150 for it. Would it be worth buying it?
 
ahhh well to tell yah i would still stay with the 9800pro its an AMaZING card
 
so would a radeon 9800 pro 256 mb for 266 bucks off newegg be better than one of these?
I mean my god..279 bucks for one of these baby's?



(although i would rather hav ethe x800 PE..but ya)

They are clocked at a lower speeds.

The cheap ones (below $300) are clocked at 325 core and 700 memory. The expensive ones are clocked at 350 core and 1000 memory.

I honestly have no idea what the performance difference would be. I imagine it may be fairly significant since a 300 MHz jump in memory speed is pretty significant.
 
Hmm...how about the x600s? How do they compare to the 9800s? I know they aren't as good but maybe my Dad could just buy one of those and I will keep my 9800.

Have to go up to near 400$ before you get one with 350MHz/1GHz. Ouch.

I should also note that the default (as determined by Nvidia) for the 6800 is 325/700. So if you find a benchmark of the 6800, you are guaranteed that performance. The higher clocked version will perform faster, I just have no idea how much faster.

The X600s are horrible, they are pretty much the equivalent to the 9600s except they are PCI Express.

What does your Dad need a video card for? Video games or something else?

For the family computer, which my little brother uses. And he also lost the bracket for the card, and whats a video out cable. My little brother wants to be able to play EQ2 on the computer, and it only has a geforce 2 in it now so it will need somthing a bit better.

It'll need more RAM too, only has 256 I think.

Moving from a 9800 pro to one of the $300 6800's would not be worth it at all. Here's an awesome deal for you:

Incredible that they're selling a GT for only $333, but they are and their is nothing wrong with it, it's a good deal. It's twice as fast as the 9800 pro and is definitely a worthwhile upgrade and it will last you a long time.

Sweet, and it runs just fine on the source engine right? I have only seen one comparison chart.

Only $10 difference now, and I heard the BFG are over clocked so they run better...
 
I'm so pissed that they raised the price on that GT... I WANTED IT FOR XMAS! I hope they bring it down again.
