I'm not talking about todays date, or the convience store chain. I'm talking about how many of Steam's servers are down right now.


What the heck is going on here?

They're juicing them up for HL2 media.
 
They're finally shutting Steam down and doing things the good ol' http way.
 
funny you should say that, since its National 7-11 "Birthday" wich means FREE SLURPEES!

Yep, they're closing down all of it.

i can't play cs i keep getting content server errors.. 9/11 are red on the status page.

After it's back up, there will be a new Steam release that should address some of the startup/shutdown problems people are running into.

This release will not include the first Half-Life 2 movie, but it gets us very close to it.
 
HOW MANY MORE TIMES DO YOU HAVE TO POST THAT EXACT SAME NOTICE?!
 
Well that's good to know..... I was kind of wondering why there was such a massive failure of the servers......
 
hmm, right after I updated I checked the monitor window of steam, it showed it was updating platform(the name that appears beside the HL2 media logo in the hack) for about 2 seconds, then it finished. After that, I don't see the hl2 media logo in my games section...
 
Steam is updated, but Opposing Forces still don't work.. still gives me Steam VFS failed to mount error...

Whats up with that?
 
The Steam platform is the general graphics interface and the workings behind it.

If it said it was updating platform, all it means is an update to Steam is being transmitted through to you. You'll see it happening a lot and normally things like that are just very very subtle changes that you won't even notice.
Nothing to get excited about.
 
My question is...

Why dont they?

Isn't their problem about bandwidth?.. you'd think 960mb/s is enough :S thats more than a gig in 2 seconds... dear god...
 
Steam has been free you don't need to be a Fileplanet subscriber to get it.
 
i am new here guys. Sorry for asking a dumb question, but what is Steam, and where can i get it, and what is it for?
