7 Days

As the release is fast approaching and the lucky guy who went to valve pointed out that some steam/hl2 details will be released shortly, surely there will be a huge indication as to if the game will ship.
Because it's not exactly like the game will be in stores on the 30th after Gabe & the team spending all night working on it.
It's time to look into distrobution, It's granted that Sierra(Viveldi) have got all the boxes sitting ready in some machine to have the cd's inserted and a huge convoy leaving the headquarters off around the world. Or is it likely that distrobution will be done from each seperate major company producing, Does Sierra have manufacturer plants multinationally?
After all many games stores have titles a week in advance, as the 7 day broder closes in, we're sure to see a definite line.
Such an operation for a shipping date just 9 days away seems extremely vast and the paperwork and system analysis for such a system must be 'awesome'.
I have tried to avoid anything that has been likely to be dwelled (discussed) on before.
Oh yea, anyone else noticed on gameplay's front page that there is no longer any date for HL2 next to the link but it still exists on the game page? Mid Edit, I notice quite a few game pages have been updated, such as Game have now gone to TBC, Amazon have the date "December 1, 2003"

How do you know CD production has not started?

And don't forget about Steam ;)

9 days actually, 7 days would make it the 28th.

they need to release the game via steam for the one week predoanload spitcodfry was talking about, i think that will be the major indication if it will be on time or not. of course i dont think it would be manditory for them to do it one full week in advance

Read my post again to reveal that I do take account it's 9 days, I just speak in the context of the 7 day turnaround.

Since it's being released the 30th for US, it'll be the same amount of days for Australia. In other words, it won't be released September 30th in Austrilian. More like October 2nd. :p

yeah thats really, really sad :(
O well.. time to hang myself
j/k :)

What am i going to do! im on 2 week holidays and the 30th is my 6th last day lol! ill prolly get it my first day back to school!
GOOD WORK VALVe :p

It's pheasable. Vivendi Universal Games who own Sierra Studios, also own publishing labels such as Fox Interactive, Universal Interactive, and many other big names in game publishing. For such a grand scale release as HL2, I doubt they'd restrict the pressing and publishing of HL2 to just the Sierra branch. VUG have factories all over the world, a worldwide release in 9 days time, isn't exactly impossible.

I think they're pushing it. It's just a waiting game over the next few days. They NEED to announce it going gold, or delayed over these next few days or they'll lose credability. Can you imagine the uproar if on the 27th, Valve announced the game was delayed until November? No one would be very happy. No one's going to be very happy if the announce it delayed now as it is, which is what still gives me hope of a release on the 30th.

I just hope that there's an announcement either today or tomorrow.

Sorry but i dont have a doubt hl2 wont come out in the 30th.
i even delayed my video card buying till the game will be released.
i belive when the game comes out ill be getting a really nice price for the ati 9800..

sorry but thats how i see it...
get used to it...

i mean dont u all remmber last week's : "if it wont come out this week it wont make it to the 30th".

well were passed that..
and you still not admiting its delayed.

No, if it really is a world wide release on the 30th then it means everyone will get it on the 30th in their respective timezones. Which means New Zelanders and then Australians would get it first.

The week has just started.

Well we can be fairly certain that if there is no announcement by Tuesday, then it's not going to make it.

I can't play it until about October 15 because the computer I have right now can't run it and the new one I just bought is being built and going through Quality tests and is suposed to ship on the 30. Since its ground shipping it'll take about 5 - 10 business days. I guess I'll have to read the manual over and over and over again.

well I just moved to montreal and I'm staying with my sister. her computer sucks and I gotta wait till I find a place and bring all my stuff down including my pc. hehe the devil inside me wants hl2 to be delayed :)

7 days.....you see the ring before you die :)

anyways, i really hope it comes out sept 30. that would be awesome.

I think it's going to end up being relased on the 30th or very soon after, but only on Steam. Then it'll be anywhere from 3 days to 10 days after that that we'll actually see it on store shelves in the US. That's my middleground, i.e. not optimistic or pessimistic, guess. Course, some might say that hoping for any kind of release on the 30th is being optimistic, but whatever...

Steam won't be ready for a full scale half life release by the 30th even if hl2 is boxed and ready.
Everyone talks about the problems of getting it boxed and shipped in one week IMHO thats nothing compared to the task of getting steam up to the job in one week. Just look at the offical steam forums, bugs galore.

Not to mention the fact that Steam only has 1575 or so Mbps if total bandwidth ==> not nearly enough unless they have some special scheme to keep peeps from overloading the servers.

Yes, capping download speeds.

which means steamers are going to wait forever bewtween loading points inbetween map areas

I think you download the whole thing in one sitting. It would make more sense.

For the record, the correct word is "Feasible".

I hope we get an announcement and a solid ship date soon too (preferably 9/30).

But I won't be playing it til 11/15, when all the hardwares drop their prices for the fall season. That's when I get my uber rig to rock!

Fortunately, I'm not an engineer for Valve. I'd hate to be the ones figuring this all out. It seems like a huge undertaking, and if they pull it off without many problems then hats off to them. Unfortunately, most online games, e.g. MMORPG's, have a lot of problems with their networks on initial release. All I have to say to Valve is good luck. lol

Thank you Javert, I feel owned now. :D

/me waits...

It's a waiting game now people...

i think valve should really consider bittrorrent, or maybe they will include something like that in steam...:bounce: :bounce:

or how 'bout something faster, like DC

but no, I doubt it 110%, it wouldn't seem like a wise business move, promoting p2p

I just hope, and think, most people will be buying the boxed version

Said it before: the game data should just be freely tradeable.

Sierra Studios, also own publishing labels such as Fox Interactive, Universal Interactive

Umm, FOX owns FOX, if I'm not mistaken, and Universal owns Sierra, not the other way around.

Sorry dis, but it will be released both via Steam AND on store shelves on the release date. (hope its 9/30).
