Actually, it is quite a step up from the 7800gtx. However, if you have a 7800gtx I recommend just waiting for the DX10 cards. Thats what I'm doing atleast.

7900xt is only 7800 with die shrink and bigger mem and core mhz.

But 7900GT is very good with the price, and you can OC to GTX with better cooling + it is one slot card.

It looks like it wins some and looses some to the top ATI 1900 card. Just different games. Too bad it can't do HDR with AA/AF. I'm waiting on DX10 cards too...probably buy a new system at that time. I still have not jumped on the PCI-E bandwagon. :X

Lot of competition though. Good stuff.

ATI has a new midrange card out as well. X1800 GTO launched today.

Same here. Getting a new gfx card means upgrading EVERYTHING because of PCI-E. Looks like I'm'a drop a fat wad of cash in '07!

Would it be better for me to buy a 7800GTX or a 7900GTX?

I have a shitty 6600 so an upgrade is most needed.

If you have money to burn, get it or a 1900, otherwise, stick with your 6600/x850 or whatever and wait til the DX10 cards hit. No sense spending $500 now and $500 in less than a year.

I have two BFG 7800GTX-OC and Its not worth upgrading to 7900GTX,

I will wait for 8800gtx late this year with daul Core and dx10

Looks like a nice card, but if I had the money I'd wait for DX10.

No point of upgrading now. It's better to just save up your cheddah for a DX10 card.

And just to point it out you can get x1800xt for 299$ too.

Guys wait for DX10 cards, is gonna be a big jump a total new API, if you purchase now is gonna be obsolete with DX10, yes you would still have a fast card but it wont be able to produce the DX10 effects, and that would piss me off if I spend 500$ for a top of the line card...
so wait guys! wait!!!!
If you reaaly want to burn 500 bucks now, go by an Xbox360 or something alone those lines... :D

Or not.

Well if I upgrade myself from AGP to PCIe then I'm really stuck of what to with my 6800 GT ultra OC....I just don't know.

Too good to give it away.....And freaking foolish to throw it away....this thing is just that 1950 Bentley. Always a classic.

Upgrade to an agp/pci-e mobo so that you can continue using your beloved card, yet still have the upgrade path for pci-e when the need rises.

Yeah guys, this card did absolutely nothing but beautiful job, I stayed on this card's ass, playing FEAR for a whole day and it never complained once. I'm so absolutely positively happy with it. Kicked FEAR, HL2, Q4, COD2 and FS2004's asses.
I wish they came up with dual AGP slot MOBOs like SLI or something, so I can buy another 6800 Hehe.

I'm not ready for major purchases at the moment but I will definitely keep that MOBO in mind.

FYI the only board that will give you a good AGP implementation with PCI-Express for future upgrades is the ULI M1695 chipset. Link
Other boards take a chipset with PCI-Express and add AGP as a hax basicly. It isn't even near the same performance for the AGP part of it.

it only have x1 SATA2 :(
Harddrive spin speeds only lets it dish out about 60mbps average (burst is higher). Thats a lot slower than the 150 or 300 mbps that the SATA cable allows for.

you can find a agp\pci-e mobo here

i've ordered one, i dont think it worth buying another card ( got 6800ultra, which im happy with now )

I did little research on the motherboard and it seems that (According to Biostar Knowledge base) all AGP graphic cards aren't supported.

Here http://www.biostar-usa.com/mbdetails.asp?model=k8t890-a9

I got BFG 6800 GT Ultra OC and its not among the supported ones.
