8600 series is out on Newegg

Don't be :O
For users who own 7600 GT, 7900 GS, or X1950 Pro hardware, we can't recommend an upgrade to one of these new parts. Even though new features and higher performance in a few applications is better, there's not enough of a difference to justify the upgrade.

omfg? The xfx is not only the same price as the others but a lot better too! AND IT CAN ACTUALLY FIT IN MY CASE!

Aye but for low end users it's a good DX10 card. I'm picking one up for my little sisters machine later today.

I wouldn't call the 8600gts low end :p; maybe the 8300/8500.
Besides, all these cards coming out before anything DX10 sure doesn't do justice.

Hold on until ATI releases theirs and when the release date comes closer. Then the card will be cheap but not as good as the best ones. Still it's a very good DX10 card but it will be really cheap then.

Should i go from X600 to an X1950 or a 8600?

wait, if you care about dx10 that is. Right now still is not a very great time to buy if you plan on going on a new card for a long time, waiting for those price drops AND games that will actually USE the cards in their purposeful state; its two birds with one stone.

but the point is that there's basically nothing dx10, cards work wonders when in their accustomed versions. I get like 20 less fps forcing my 6800 to run CSS in dx 8 mode.

I plan to purchase a 8800 GTX/S during the summer.

Wait tbh.
Once ATI release their card (if ever) Nvidia's cards will all drop in price I reckon. If they don't then it's not like you've lost any money and you might have saved more to get a better card :)

When is the ATI card gonna come out? I though it was supposed to come out the same day as Vista.

Hey May is right around the corner, if they release em in May I'd be really happy. That means Nvidia will drop their prices on the 8800s and I could actually afford a new video card without having to resort to selling my internal organs.
