Well i'm completely stuck on which model to get. So many different companies are releasing different versions.

One is ?117, the other is ?223.

Is there THAT much point in getting a 512 over a 256?

Also, will there be a drop in price for the 8800 series after the new one is released? (which i've heard is sometime in spring)

I would advise you to get the 512mb version over the 256mb version. You will really notice the difference when you play games at higher resolutions above & beyond 1280x1024.

Yes, prices will drop on the 8xxx line of video cards once the 9800 become available to the public & go mainstream.

May as well buy a generic brand if you get a dud part you'll have to deal with the reseller anyway.
