So anyone else out there having problems with this "patch" that got released today?

I double click on my CS:S icon and the game just doesn't even start anymore. What do I do??? I need to play!

Alright, thanks for the sarcastic response. Really appreciate it. Yes I have looked around, and no one has described this issue. However the solution was to wait. I was just gauging a different response.

Maybe if you looked a bit harder you might find the fix.
 
yea there is a fix but for mods teh game will crash after 5 minutes
 
i didnt encountered any problems...
for what i know the only change is adding HDR, isnt it? (i didnt checked it, so im not sure)
 
ALL my source games dont work for me :(...
All they do is get me on the splash screen.. then they freeze

I guess Valve have to alter the system requirement of CS:S after the 23/9 update, Change the 512MB requirement to 1024MB to be able to play CS:S. Correct me if i am wrong cos i think the whole issue is about RAM.
 
i have 1GiG of RAM and I get CTD after 5 mins. First I thought I installed my new Nvidia Drivers wrong, but nope, cos i reinstalled them. So why CTD? Because valve wants everyone to buy DoD, Greedy bastards.

So I waited until the next day, and tried again, still no luck. It just says "launching CS:S" then the mesage dissappears and my computer just sits there. It doesn't freeze, but it acts as if nothing happened.

This is so f*cken retarded. I am a console gamer, but I had an open mind for PC games. This sort of crap doesn't happen on a console, this is why PCs in my opinion are better left to doing your homework and browsing the internet.

I do have only 512 RAM, but I'm not about to go and upgrade just for this game. I know RAM is dirt cheap now. But so what. And I don't even know if that's the issue?

This is wrong, HDR is not in any game yet, and they added "optimizations". Shouldnt it run BETTER?
 
I think that FarCry has an "HDR Patch".
But on the other hand, it has also a "64-Bit Patch" that doesn't do a thing... =\

This is the first time I've ever listened to steam. I Updated my video drivers, everything went away :) All is good!

game not availible?

uh, couple days ago i started getting these error windows pop up when i try to open CS;S ' tryin to read from like 293502 without proper authentication. ' and then i close that and another thing pops up saying 'game not currently availible?? wtf, i wanna plays cs.
 
since the patch i can only see 1 server all the others are either not there or not responding. The one i can join has a huge ping. When i join i get this error log.

patch is working well i think.
 
Problems Solved

I have tried everything that has been suggested , here and on steam, and finally found a solution... I had nemod mod installed.

Just rename your addons folder under cstrike to something like addons-old.

This corrects the crash-to-desktop during load.

The problems above sound like your firewall denying access...

Yup - people like that are a bunch of smug arseholes, I believe they spend most of thier days at home sucking thier own cocks... or they're just teenagers...

anyway, i don't know if this'll fix any of your problems, but deleting my counter-strike source folder fixed my 'launcher dll / procedure not found' error. Which is more than deleting game content and the file validation thing did. The subsequent download only took about 3 mins too... minor adjustments to my tweak file dealt with most of the extra lag/choppiness the patch appeared to add. You'll find a list of decent fixes for various problems and my current "decent eyecandy at reasonable fps" tweak file on this old thread of mine:

My CS: Source doesn't crash or freeze, but the game lags. When I shoot, shot can be seen and heard about 0,2 secs late, and it's very frustrating. Also my fps is 5-15 all the time.
 
Addons folder solution for HitchHiker2

The folder to be renamed is

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\[UserName]\counter-strike source\cstrike\addons

It will contain any mods you have installed (nemod, mani etc).

Worked for me like I say, plus getting much better quality and fps...

Can't wait for HDR CS:S maps... Hopefully someone is giving it a bash...
 
I can't eve load CSS since the update. the **** just hangs there before I even get to the menu screen!! Valve are such arseholes! Like with the whole stutter bug issue, again they are testing there shit out on us loyal customers! ****ing wankers!!!:flame:

An update is never released unless it has had rigourous testing. And judging from the fact that the new update works for me (as well as other people), the update is not dodgy.

Launch issues are mostly due to video card drivers problems (check the website, a new nvidia driver is available, dunno about ATi). Remember to remove old one before installing new ones.

I guess I am the only one whos Source games didn't break after the update.

BTW, the problem with the FPS/Lags can be fixed by this:
A. Go to the "Options", and to "Video" and Advance. If you do not have an HDR Compatable card, turn the HDR OFF.
B. The update has changed the CFG commands. Everyone with GeForce 5XXX or ATI's equivalent, write mat_DXlevel 80 or 81.
That should do it. ^_^

But a 9800 Pro is an equivalent of a GeForce 5XXX yeah?

As the one above me said...

And it doesn't hurm your card.
It just lowers the Graphics quality...
So I recommand to use the highest DX supported by your card. (im a graphics-freak ^_^. though i have 9800p :( )
 
I put -dxlevel 81 in Properties > Launch options and it worked great for me.

DOD: S was the same, very laggy, did the same as I did with css put dx down to 8 and all is smooth :thumbs:
 
BTW, i heard that valve published a new patch to fix all of those problems...
But my Steam didnt update...
Someone knows where can i get it (though my games are working fine..)?
