Hey guys, since the release of Half-Life 2 my system specs have been :

Intel Celeron 2.5ghz
768mb DDR Ram
Ati Radeon 9600se 256mb

On CSS on DX9 with everything on high apart from aa and the filtering i get around 0 - 40 fps max and thats without the action. Tomorrow i am going to get a ATI 9800pro 256mb which i have been informed are very good, iw as just wondering what fps i would get as i was told it would be a good improvement compared to what i get now ??

p.s. I will be upgrading to 1024gb DDR ram at the end of next month then upgrading my cpu the month after that just incase people were gonna go on about upgrading to make it even better.

Check these pages for benchmarks:

You will get 60+FPS on 1280x1024 with all setting high except AA/AF. However you are stuck with a very poor CPU so you wont get that many FPS. You can turn everything to high and not lose any FPS because you are CPU limited.

Get the fastest CPU your motherboard and wallet can support as soon as possible (even before the ram).

Thanks for the mate, it's helped a lot. I found out my mobo is completely flop, so come september i will be buying a new mobo with a new amd 64 cpu, until then i will make do as i have so far without much of a drawback, the main thing i want is decent performance, so i will mess around with graphics and resolutions until i find something suitable, again, thankyou very much for that :)

That A64 will help a ton when you get it, but yeah you'll see a big improvement over a 9600se to a 9800 pro. Although you won't get the full improvement until you upgrade the cpu.

Other then that though i should get quite good performance compared to what i get with the hunk o junk i got now ??

as has been already said, your increase will be smaller than you'd probably like because of your cpu, but yes, there will be an improvement.

get a new cpu/mobo instead, then wait to save for a better card

* Pats his X800XT Platinum Edition
So far there have been no game I can't play on full detail, with 4xAA, 8XAF and with resolution 1280x960 that lags.

Well, everywhere was out of stock of a 9800pro so instead i went for the X700 256mb, everything is running better and looks nicer, the onyl thing i need to upgrade now i my RAM and mobo/cpu which i will do within the next 2 months.
