Hi...

Im now going to buy a new graphic card in the next couple of months.. Which card would you recommend? The 9600XT and overclock it or a 9800Pro and see how much it will drop in price..

I'd say see how much the 9800pro drops in prices (it won't be as low as the 9600xt) and if you have the cash, get it.

I say get the 9600XT, put the cash u saved in a box...

Then when everyone is whinning in 12 months that theirXT is outdated, slow and crap, but they can't afford another GPU because they blew it on their now "slow" card, you can pull the money out of the box and buy another near top of the range card.

It never makes sense to get the latest, most expensive card. Get something that does the job at a reasonable price .......... and then do the same again when needed :)

My philosphy is get the best card every two years, rather than the second or third best every year.

Actually if you bought the top end card you could wait longer than 2 years. :)
Although if you wish to update more often 2 years is good.
I've had my GeForce2 for I dont know how long and it was a good investment and i still play BF42 @ 800x600 full detail no lag and i can play @ 1024x768 no lag with reduced detail but i perfer full rather than higher res.

Go for a 9700pro. They are much better than a 9600XT, and a lot cheaper than a 9800pro.

That's a good way to achieve a happy medium.=)

Is the 9700 Dx9 capable? I thawt not.

Oh yes...
9500/9600/9700/9800 are all DX9.0
9000/9200 are DX8.1

Lag is a network propperty. Best graphics card in the world won't help there. :)

that's think'n!

lag as in delay or slow down...less fps under stress.

Wrong. The ONLY time lag in BF is related to connection, is when the connection problems come up. Everything else is hardware lag.

ok, hadn't heard it used that way

*Igneri edit: Can you please not double post. Use the edit button. Thanks.

9700s were cancelled like the 9500 series, awhile ago. Of course you can still find them.

i'd either go with the 9700pro, or the 9600XT...

this weekend i'll be buying the 9600XT however, 'cause i wanna' spend my money that i got from my birthday (SEPTEMBER 30th!) lol... what a day ;)

I have a 9700pro and it's an amzing card... still one of the best cards on the market and mine is almost a year old :)

nVidia are still trying to catch up :)

Hmmm interesting.

One of them is Tyan and second is Power Color. Power Color has the intention to clock their cards faster than any other, we learned, making it a little bit gainwardish with exception that they just use faster memory,
Power Color will have one more 9600XT bravo card with 128MB of memory, a 500MHz Chip and - magnificently - 760 MHz memory clock - 160 MHz faster than ATI's specification for all look-a-like Radeons.
The only reason I would consider a 9600XT though is for the HL2 voucher. Otherwise, if I was to buy now, I would buy a 9600Pro or 9800Pro as both have lowered prices and similar performance to their XT's.

But then this is interesting too.

WELL, all the reviews of the Radeon 9600XT that you saw starting yesterday could easily be false, since ATI did one more respin on its chip before sending it to manufacturers just yesterday.
Looks like they might be doing what they did with the 9600pro and what Nvidia did with the 5600Ultra.

something better coming

*EDIT* ARGH, someone posted that already. Well, uhh...shoot. I want the faster 9600XT, not only for its overclockability, but HL2.

Does BF1942 support DX 9.0? If so, how would one go about utilizing the features?

Do what i did, get a 9800 and overclock it to a 9800 Pro, They are the exact same card, go to www.rage3d.com for help on overclocking it, i saved about $250 Canadian.
