ditto^^. The 9600XT isnt worth it any more now with so many advanced game that came/coming out.

They're good cards, but with all these new demanding games coming out and they're getting a little old too, they won't be good for long. I would save up a little more for a 9800 pro, they'll last you a long time, they're really good and only $195.

I'm not buying it retail, I'm getting it OEM with a computer (part of that government scheme to get a computer in everyone's home and who am I to turn down a good offer? Very cheap!).

Debating whether to replace it though.

If you've already got a computer why are the government giving you one?? I want one too!
Oh and go for it if its cheap.

I don't think the Government can be bothered differentiating between people who have and haven't got computers for the scheme.

Anyway the good thing about it is that the computer is paid for in 36 monthly payments right (with no interest) but the really good part is that you don't pay any tax what-so-ever on it, plus it's cheap anyway!

9600 xt is a fair card that'll probally have a years life left.

Runs CS:S with everything on high no problem

Runs Doom 3 on medium 800 x 600 with occasional slowdown when things get hairy.

The CS:S rig I can't really tell you what it was apart from the card (cause I can't remember) but the Doom 3 rig is a 2000+ with 768 megs of ram

Well yeah it's a good card, especially if you're getting it with your computer and it's cheap from what you say. But if you play games, upgrading to a 9800 pro would be good.

9600xt is crap. I used to have one, but it's far too slow for anything modern. Dont bother trying to make Doom 3 or Far Cry look good on it.

wow are you sure you can only run doom 3 with this card on medium 800x600? because im running a 9100 on medium 800x600 with some effects up flawlessly, hardly ever any spikes

and doom 3 on 800 X 600 with 60 FPS everythign on high. havent tryed 1024 x 768 and its too late i uninstalled it cuz that game sucks.

I doubt you could pull a constant 60 fps on Doom (Far Cry is much better optimized or less trainfull on your system so I can belive that). With a 3.0CPU and a 9800 Pro, Doom 3 bounces around 50-60 fps on 800x600, at least for me and I got my computer pretty much optimized.

If you buy any 9800 card you can soft mod it by flashing it's bios to the XT model... So in the end you get a cheap cheap 9800XT

9600xt isnt brilliant, but it isnt crap either.

id be lieing if i said i wasnt slightly dissappointed with its performance, but it runs everything i want to play with pretty much the levels of quality i want.

Well, Talking about dissappointed... I was verry dissappointed about the performance of the card. (but did good on 3DMARK03 3600 Points) It runs under the performance of what they say the card got..The 9800 Pro runs much better! I had allot of problems with the 9600Xt When choosing drivers.. Some old drivers did better then the new ones.

If u want to know about oppinions from other people, search on google trouble shooting 9600xt Allot of forums telling.

I went back to the store, and told them about my problems with the video card. They said it's a little buggy card, sometimes it Runs perfect. Other peeps get sick of it!, I payed an extra 60 Euro's (235) and bought a 9800 pro. :) (that wasnt a bad id... )

I'f i was you i would buy a 9800 pro its better, much better not so verry expensive at this time.

Thats my experience with the card.

Wow this thread is a month old I think you're a little too late.

I have the 9600 xt and it's pretty good. I can't complain about it and I heard it's good for overclocking. So you get a descent card for little money (get it cheap, got mine for $200 Cdn). Sure you can always upgrade more to a 9800 pro for another $100 Cdn but to me, that's too much (especially, when you consider that you have to pay $60+ for the game and maybe upgrade ram etc... it adds all up to a lot in the end).

i was planning to get a 9600 xt when it first came out but it wasnt available b/c they did not mass produce and i got impatient and got a 9600se(horrible card)..btw yea go get a 9800 pro or if you have extra cash get the x800 xt pe :naughty:
