hey all. i need advice on cooling my powercolor radeon 9800pro new card. my specs are as below. basically, i had problems after the first 10-15mins, as i get red squares made up of red dots all over the screen, sort of like a chess board. however, after a while they dissapear, then they come back a few minutes later. i was suggested to reinstall dx9.0b and the catalyst drivers, and that didnt make a difference.

however, i left the side of my case open as suggested, and the problem almost never happened. so cooling of the card is my problem i guess.
so should i get either:

OR (lol)

or will these be a waste of money??? is there another option for me???

thanks for amy help u can give me (im running my comp with the panel off...im worried about dust for now)

If you just bought it, the card could be bad. If you do get an aftermarket heatsink/fan replacement and the red dots still appear, you just tossed your warranty out the window.

If you still want to replace your stock cooling, the Artic Cooling VGA Silencer Revision 3 is the best. It is quiet, cheap and powerful.

I'd say go for the Arctic cooler as well, but remember installing it is a bit tricky you have to be careful otherwise you will end up breaking the GPU.

but even if i do change the stock cooling, i'll still be able to send it back right??? saying that it was a faulty card etc (tho im pretty positive that it's cooling problems, as it runs absoultely perfect when it's cool). besides ive read that powercolor 9800pro's have really bad cooling problems with stock fans.

what is the internal temp of your case?

have you tried having a room fan blowing onto it with the side of your case open to test your heat theory?

well my cpu is running at 52c as i OCd it...and the GPU actually burnt my finger when i touched it quickly (yes i had touched the case b4 hand). im gonna try the fan idea, as i have one in my room, hope it makes a difference. a minute or so after i put the panel back on, the problem starts. ive just ordered the Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer REV3, so hopefully that shuld help.

ill try a thermometer in there aswell lol, see what temp it reaches with the panel shut.

I'm not sure but I think if you remove the stock cooling or modify the card in any way the warranty/guarantee becomes void.

hmm. just read that possibly a lack of power reaching the card can cause overheating. ive got a 350/w so i dont think that can be true. im sort of grabbing at any idea i come across atm. running with the side panel off and a room fan next to it has done the trick. havent had any problems at all so far.

 I personally use a Thermaltake heatpipe heatsink one. It's great, the thing is my fan broke for it, BUT I managed to OC my 9800 Pro to 411/348 and it is stable as ever. Could be that I have a blower fan right next to it and a side fan next to it.
