did this thread just go way off topic

Not way off topic, but since he pretty much has the answer for his original question, it's now him just asking whatever comes out of his arse.

Not like that's a bad thing. I do it all the time, just trying to keep my threads alive :p

OK, I just had a thought.
When the new NVIDIA cards comes out the 7800. Won't the 6800gt fall in price?
Also can they run a 420w PSU?
And will there be a 7600 card as well?

I'd say yes to all, but it'll be a while till the 6800's fall it price.

As for the psu's, I think you'll be fine, as long as you're not running too many other things off it, and it's from a quality brand name manufacturer. I'm running my 6800gt pci-e off a 480w TrueBlue, as well as two cd drives, one being a dvd burner (both are ata 100 though), a raptor, a 5600 rpm hdd, 4 80's, and a 92.

But then again, that's a 60w diff eh? ;)

WOW! About your fans. Is there a way to install fans in a case that has no place to put one? My case if getting hot but I have no special place to put one, i have a grill at the back that could fit a fan but i'm not sure.

what case you got? If there is a grill there with 4 holes in teh corners, then you could see if the length from one corner to another diagonally is, then you could look into getting a fan to put there.

The case is a normal case. I got a prebuilt computer from PC world. Advent.

Lol, we mean manufacturer and such. Even if it is a prebuilt, the case was built by SOME body. Try and find the specs for the pc you bought at pc world.

As for the fans, I almost bore two holes in the side of an old HP I had. I never got around to it, but i'm sure it can't be too hard, just make sure you remember, measure twice, cut once. Or if you're going to cut twice, make the first cut small

This is what I could find. Is there some type of fan holder?

Any one know any good ram heatsinks and some 80mm fans?

You're not going to get any good ram heatsinks. You could buy some of Vantecs ones built for video ram modules, but you could still only fit them on one side of the DIMM. The ram is just too close together to fit heatsinks between them. You could go out and grab some of Vantecs copper heatspreaders, but I hear that those are a complete waste of money.

As for 80mm fans, Vantecs got the Tornados (you'll definetly need a rheobus for that though) and Thermaltake has some nice noise:cfm ratio fans.

SO what do I look for in a case fan?

Also would this

or this

be any good?

Edit: How do you what size fan fits? Do you measure diagonal?

You don't need to worry about that. Fans come in 4 flavors (that are standard. Some nuts prolly got a custom 6000 running) 60mm, 80mm, 92mm (also commonly addressed as 90mm's) and 120mm's. You just find out what the slot is (look at the other fans in your pc, and see if they fit in there. Otherwise, it's an 80mm on all sides. Same applies for the others) and find a fan to fit it.

And you're looking for as much cfm for as low as possible db. Db is the sound/noise the fan produces, in decibles, and cfm is cubic feet per minute. Shouldn't take too long to figure out which is good eh?

The thing is, I have not got any fans in my computer only the 60mm fan on my CPU. Thats why I'm looking at this

WOW. A 60 on your cpu? My HP (now sitting at my floor ripped to shreds. Waiting for $ to turn it into a server) used to be slotted for a 60, but they still did a few creative mod's to get a 90 on it.

Well, then i'd suggest you go out and get a new heatsink that fits 90's. That'll be the best thing to do for now. I recommend an xp-90 it it'll fit whatever socket your cpu is. I have one. Good stuff. And grab some AS5 too.

The one I have keeps my CPU at 36 °C (97 °F)
