I get 35-55 fps @ 1280x1024 2xAA 4xAF everything on highest LOD.

-1 gig RAM
-2.8 ghz pentium iv
-ati Radeon 9800 pro

I know this is unusually high, and I couldn't tell you exactly why it is, but...

*I only read the first few posts before writing this.

It sounds about right for your system :)

I hover between 20-50 @ 1280x960 2xAA 4xAF with these settings:

Model: High*
Texture: High*
Water: World*
Shader: High*
Vsync: Disabled*
Shadow: High*

Specs are: P4 2.2 (Northwood) 1024mb DDR2 (Samsung PC2100) R9800 Pro 128mb (Hercules)

Your FPS is subpar because you don't have enough RAM. You can't play modern games with 512 nowadsy and expect good performance AND good quality.

My system:
Athlon XP 3000+
1gb DDR400
Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb
MSI K7N2 Delta

I have everyone on High (By default) in CS:S, excluding Anti-aliasing and filtering (Using Triliniar) at 1024x768. I get about 85 frames average on the video stress test. I can jack up the antialiasing to like 8x and Ansiotropic filtering to 4x w/o much of a performance hit during gameplay, but I haven't tried running the videotest with it. They don't really add a whole lot to quality anyways.

Hey,
this is my system:
Abit nf-7
Athlon xp 2500+ @ 3200+
A-data viesta 512 (256X2) @ 400mhz
9800pro 128mb

When im running cs:s on my pc without connecting to any server, i get between 100-150 fps on w/e resulotion it doesnt actually changes dunno why.
But if I connect to server with ppl, I get between 30 to 80 fps, I've tried every config/settings including resulotions and DX versions changing and nothing matters.
This is very frustrating, since after all I've just purchaced this machine, I have no money for a new one :(

Is there anything I can do?
What's your fps on your 9800 pro?
thanks/

your processor is too bad. i got amd64 3200+ 1gig ram 9800pro and everything maxed except that no aa and no af and 1280x1024 res and 50-80 fps

my system oddly enough performs differently nearly everytime (regardless of the same settings and same map, even the same server with the same people)

its weird.
its great performance regardless though even on the low end.

I think you mean AFx8 and AAx4 because the 9800 Pros don't have 8xAA :O

"Source physics engine requires quite a lot of CPU power and it looks like you definitely should have a powerful system to play the Counter Strike: Source without lags."

Must say I have to agree with this cause it runs like a dream here :)

I have a 128Mb 9800 Pro, 3Ghz P4 @ 3.5Ghz and a Gb of 3200 RAM, all in an Abit DigiDice.
At 1024x768 timerefresh gives 150+, stress test 102...
Don't see the point in running it any higher

I'm happy :)

Alright people, I have about $200 to spend on a new vid card, and I'm looking at the 9800 pro. Is that the best deal for $200?

definitely. take it, you wont be disappointed

I have:

P4 2.8 "C"
Abit IC7 (i875 chipset)
2x512MB of DDR400 in dual channel.
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB
Windows XP pro sp1
Catalyst 4.7 (I'll upgrade when the 4.10 are out)

In-game settings:
1280x960
All settings at highest.
V-Sync OFF
AA at OFF
AF at Trilinear

Result: 30 to 100+. Mostly in the 40-80 FPS range.

If I turn on AA to 2x and AF to 8x I get an average of 25-60 instead.
So I mostly play with AA and aF off.

60+ fps is great, as soona s you get in the 50 and less range, it starts to stutter.

People who say 30 is silky smooth are wrong. 30 is playabel, but not ideal.

Good day... I say good day!

Asus A7V8X-X
AMD Athlon XP 2500+
768MB PC2700 RAM
Windows XP SP1 (SP2 kills my internet connection)
ATi Radeon 9800 Pro (Catalyst 4.9)

..***nning at 1024x768 high and I get about 40 average FPS, with around 65 on the stress test. :(

Couldn't find a thread, so I'll ask here. What's the console command for showing your FPS?

cl_showfps 1

or cl_showfps 2

by this FPS counter, "in the green" is 60+ fps...and we know that this was the goal they wanted for the 9800pro.

the second is not updated as quickly, and affects the games less. with my
XP-M2500 @ 11x205
A9800pro 256with xt bios @ 423/354
2x256mb hyperX pc3200@205mhz
Ga-7n400pro
Audigy LS
Fastwrites on, 8x AGP, 64mb AGP aperature, TRUFORM on, quailty settings in ATI control panel.
1024x768 all on high, reflect world 4xaa(temporal) trilinear filtering
avg 40-120fps, dependant on map. Office generally gets me 60+, sometimes with a couple of smoke nades in a hallway, and lots of fire, i drop to 20-30.
italy 60-90
havana 54-85
chateau 20-110(drops to 20 when close to gaping hole in wall wiht boards while nade explodes)
dust(both) 60-110
paranesi(sp?) 50-100
aztec 30-80 with rain 40-100 without
cbble 50-85

My fps does not seem to be affected by the server I am on, but i only join ones in the top20 in the browser.
