Hey guys, ive had my 9800xt for a while now and have been having a low fps problem for a long long time and i cant seem to figure it out.. PLEASE HELP

p4 3.2 w/HT
asus p4c800e-delux
Kingston HyperX Dual Chan 512x2
Radeon 9800xt

Fifa 2004 sooo choppy probably like 20fps
Cs 30-50 avrg..ive tried turning off V-sync to fix Cs. didnt do anything...all my games lag at 1024+ Res....shouldnt i fly with high fps?

hmm wongo, have u thought about the omega drivers? with steam i lost fps, on the same game that i got good fps on 1.5 cs.

try to get hte omega rivers, and use them they seemed to fix steam 1.6 for me, now i run at 1.5 speeds of fps.

ive tried the omega drivers before, i still get really low fps in all games.

i feel what ur saying man, you pay a lot of the good stuff, but then it dosent do what its supposto do, i dont know what to say.

but dont give up hope , people in this forum will help u find hte solution to even the hardest comp problems. thjey helped me a lot

Edit: maybe its a setup issue, maybe the properties limiting someting or ur cooling prossibly? do u get hot int he games? theres probably some kind of limitor in the properties of the card, or somethig.

ya i think so too, i was thinking about changing the card bios by flashing, but i dont think i wanna take a chance

Uninstall the old drivers completly and then reinstall the new ones. Lots of my GFX card problems were because i didnt uninstall the old drivers properly.

is your processo running at the proper speed? Are you sure you have a 9800XT? do you have intenisive programs running in the background? What's your monitor refresh rate? Do you have vsync forced off in the ATI control panel? Do you have the 4.7 cats?

I do have a 9800xt, no intensive progs, have a 75 refresh rate vsync is off and i have the new cat. how do i find out if my processor is running at proper speed? ive tried whiping out old drivers and installing the new cat..didnt do anything.

Uninstall drivers and use a driver cleaner. Reinstall the drivers.
Double check the power plug (molex connector) on the card is plugged in.

If cleaning out the old drivers dont work there might be a setting in the bios that you have set wrong.

i havent set any bios settings. i have just removed my cat drivers, cleaned it with a driver cleaner, and just installed the new omega drivers... no change.. im gonna try to figure out the molex connector suggestion..but i have no clue what i am looking for. :S

There should be a connector on the end of your graphics card inside your PC.
You need to plug in a Power plug (usually white) from your Power supply into the connection on your card.

I would unplug it and make sure the wires are in far enough so they can make good contact. Then just plug it back in.

it sounds like a compatability issue. what do u think?

i dotn think that will fix it. has to do with sometime more like stress tests, of that sort, some software stuff. something is not unleashing the power.

i dont think anyone has asked this... how much free space have you got on your harddrive and what speed/size is it (is it old?) What 3dmark do you get? so we can try and figure out what may be causing it... defragged your HD recently? got the latest cats? i got poor performance from the Omegas so i was never impressed by them... stick with the Cats to be honest...

Have you installed the INF update utility drivers for you mobo and agp and such?

EVERY intel user should do this, as this gives you ALOT more 3dmark01 points or something, and enables agp

Give us a clearer picture of your systems performance.
Download and run 3dmark 03, post your results here, it will give a good picture of overall performance and allow people to gauge how your score deviates from what your system should be benching at.

To the person who asked about Free Hd Space...i got a 200gb WD HD, i got like 130gb left..so i got alot of space.. I have installed the INF update for my mobo and AGP....i am going to DL the 3dmark and give u guys the results..what should the AGP aparture size be set at?

What refersh rate do you have your monitor on. For some reason when I have the refresh rate at 120 Morrowind runs at 30fps, but when I put the refresh at 85, I get 70 fps. Can somebody explain this.

Try downloading DNA drivers. They are slightly modified catalyst drivers to squeeze out some fps. I've been using them for awhile and they're just as stable as the catalyst drivers. I have a 9800 PRO and I can play FarCry with everything maxed (even AA and resolution) at very good framerates (I have a 512 RAM and 3.0CPU), so your 9800xt should do a very good job)

Here's the link: http://www.dna-drivers.nl/viewtopic.php?t=2851

lol software. no.... ya i tried farcry at MAx REs with everything high..and IT LAGS LIKE A MOFO! "WTF!" ive tried those drivers..same results

Try reformatting, if you added that video card and removed a previous one the drivers could still be there even if you unistalled

turn down the settings.

turn it down? i should be able to run it sooo high...i bought this computer in march..so it was installed wit hthe comp..reformat? did that like how many times..

Have you overclocked it? Maybe its too fast for your memory, maybe the memory is setup in the BIOS incorrectly, maybe AGP is configured wrong, maybe your just trying to run games at far too high a resolution with too many things turned up high.

See the Far Cry Patch recall.....your config may be one of the ones in exception that suffers performance drops

Actually I get better performance in games if I turn my settings higher. I don't know why but the Battlefields and CS play much better at 1280*1024 and higher. Farcry is another issue for me though hehe.

Here's a no-brainer tip: disable all HKLM/HKCU auto-startups and autoruns. Check with task manager to see if you have anything else running that's not needed for gaming.

have you tried the new Cata. Drivers? I use them and they work great for me but i have the 9800pro. Your right that you shoudnt be lagging at all with that setup, my systems worse and FarCry runs at 1600x1200 with all high settings fine. What about AA and AF? They always cause major lag

Try resetting all your bios settings (don't forget to save once your done) or download the latest bios for your motherboard, that's what I always do if a reformat doensn't solve the issue.

just tried to update my bios....

CMOS Checksum bad...uhh...wat do i do?
