Going through the .gcf files, I've always noticed that the Scout and Heavy have files called "scout_meleedate.etc", where they pretty much taunt somebody into going melee with them.

How do you actually get it to play ingame? Does it actually play ingame?

Why don't other classes have it?!

EDIT:

I forgot to mention _medicfollow01.wav, too.

All classes that recieved updates including and after the Heavy have unused sound files called 'meleedares' they also have class specific domination and revenge sound files too.

I hope they don't implement the melee dare in game. Few things are more annoying than people who spend half an hour spamming 'CMON SUM1 HAVE A BOXING MATCH WIT ME IN SEWERS LOL!' while taking up a player slot, or useless heavies running around using gloves exclusively. These idiots shouldn't have any more silly tinsel to encourage them.

Oh, you have no sense of humour.

I would like to meet a man who's still uproariously amused with the Heavy's boxing gloves after more than 5 minutes of running around trying to punch people. I would like to meet him and punch him in the throat.

The correct ettiquete is to raise your bottle and brain him.

I had a taunt kill only payload match once. It was fun. Sandman FTW.

*waves*

It's fun. You should try it sometime.

Plus, it's not like 1 player in a 12v12 match screwing around to have fun is going to significantly change your gameplay experience.

Given, in a 6v6 I'd never do it because that would impact the team.

Even on a 24 player server I think it's very likely to have an impact when only one player on a team is just pissing about. You're almost always having to deal with the extra inequality of players afk, uneven numbers (eg. 12 vs 11), and I don't think I've ever seen a pub game where a team failed to capitalise on a prolonged 2 man difference. Since there aren't usually many very good or very bad players on a pub, victory tends to just come down to a numbers game and a matter of whether everyone is out shooting when they should be.

On a 32 player, yeah, it's less noticeable, but why not just find a melee only server if that's what you want to do?

Cartoony games with obnoxious weapons and voice-acting are for serious.

Is it ok if I ran around punching people before the fancy boxing gloves came out?

Medic Follow sounds like a new voice command.

Melee Dare sounds like a new auto played thing. It's not uncommon for two players to get into a melee fight, the plan is probably to play those sounds when that happens.
