Some years ago, back in 1996, there was a brilliant rally game released, Network Q RAC Rally Championship - (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_Q_RAC_Rally_Championship_(1996) ) this was a classic game of my youth, it had 28 stages, with stages lasting more than five minutes! There was a 30 mile monster called Pundershaw and many other stages covering 15 or more miles. It was a legendary game, why can't more rally games be like this?

It still works great on DOSBox and with a 360 pad, did anyone else in their youth play this classic?

(Inspiration came from this that I wrote - http://www.thereticule.com/?p=1102)

I did play a Rally Championship game when I was a kid, but I think it was the next installment in the series after this one.

Yeah, that's the one. It was pretty good, had some long tracks, in varied environments.
I also loved the soundtrack, still remember it to this day.

Edit: It's Rally Championship 2000.

I remember this game, used to always race in the impreza :) I remember it being so straight foward getting into a race, not too much faffing around in menus for half an hour before seeing the start line.

Ooh nice, going to check that one out now, just found a demo for it :)

Yeah I always used the Imprezza or the Megane, never touched the Skoda at all, ugh it was so ugly!

Bit off-topic, Evo, what drivers do you use for your 360 pad, is it a wireless or wired pad?

I have a wireless pad and tried hooking it up to my PC using the wireless receiver but the drivers gave me a lot of trouble.

I've got a wired which I use on the PC, never had any trouble with it. I do have a wireless which came with my 360, but for whatever reason I've never been able to get that to work.

Because Colin MCrae, one of the people known to endorse these Rally Games at the time, died in a helicopter accident. I guess the irony was lost on some people, kinda like when Steve Irwin died by a stingray instead of an crocodile.

The developers probably assumed that people would realise that driving recklessly was less dangerous than air-travel

Funnily enough I had the exact same game. the only thing I remember about it was the car kept on turning over
