A counter strike documentry

I watched the first half and it's sooo biased. I mean, yeah, those kids have serious problems but there's plenty of people who play counter-strike a reasonable amount and have normal lives. They really could have shown both sides of the story. And again, it says "mature content" on the box so all those parents who let their kids play it only have themselves to blame :|

Yeah i saw that downloaded it from own-age.com
It's not bad, a good watch imo. Its great how the kid goes nuts and just runs away to play. :p

I stopped watching when the guy was talking about how he walked downstairs and said they were playing with the controllers and such..when it was keyboards :(

and said they were ignoring him..headphones are amazing.

Watched ten minutes for far, not holding out much hope for it though. Yes, an outsiders view can seem biased and ignorant to gamers, but its always useful to see yourself as others might.
The writer/presenters kid does seem a worst-case scenario for gaming addiction so far. Have to see how it turns out.

Alright, go right to 25 minutes and watch from there..talks about cops training on games. Shows them playing Quake, they call it, Doom.

I hate them. Do better research you douchebag. I'm done with it.

thanks for the link! ctv represent!
f*** now im scared of seizuring :p
no but seriously, i think the most important point made in that documentary was by the bald guy at E3... dan o'bryan ....he said that the video game industry is just another form of entertainment.... like swing and rock and roll, comic books, violent films... they've all been the target of prohibition and blame
what it boils down to is the individual..... i personally play alot of games but i dont let it interfere with the rest of my life.... i maintain good relationships with my family and friends(after all, they are much more important) and i try my best to stay physically and mentally active away for my computer
of course, as has been stated again and again, when there is a younger crowd involved, much of the responsibility lies with the parents... kids need guidance and a certain level of restriction to enable them to learn about balancing their lifestyle

anyways, great watch, definately recommended!

you're obviously missing the point

I ended up showing this off to my father, since he also plays CS from time to time..*because of me..booya*. And we both agreed. The only reason these go around is because the truth is boring. They talk to little kids, and adults with a biased opinion against that stuff. They would hear the harsh truth that they are all wrong if they talk to those like me and my father.

My father runs his own business..a computer repair shop. One of the most respected in this town. I have yet to see anything truely negative coming from him playing CS, other than the fact that he will usually rustle himself outta bed a few hours early to get some CS in before he goes to his shop :p.

Me? I've never gotten into a serious fight, never killed a person, only illegal thing I do is speed *and I really don't like too many racing games, so HA!* and I've played FPSs since Doom.

Todays world really needs to get some shit straight, and stop looking the wrong way just to get the answers they want to hear... I mean..for gods sake, they said, "These concerned parents called me saying their 8 year old was into first person shooters, and his attitude has changed alot! He would point a gun at mom and say he was going to blow her away!"

HES 8 YEARS OLD PLAYING A 17+ AGE GAME!. weeeee

I'm in rant mode.

double posts are bad mkay :) and how am I missing the point? Because they failed to do any sort of DECENT research on a documentry on something they are bashing? Hmmm. I see the point, and it's as frail as 90% of everybody elses stories on it.

They just show it as like games do nothing but frustrate parents.

What is this retardation? Whoever's kids these are, they have faulty genes. My parents never cared, I never got addicted and none of my friends have ever either.

cyber, all im saying is, mixing up quake and doom is irrelevant. period.

some kids, like the boy that twisted his mother's arm and tossed the table, really are affected by their heavy addiction.... others are not

i also like the professor of western ontario's point about serious side-effects like emotion deadening and what not.... ive witnessed this, even felt a shadow of it at times myself..... a person's complete and utter emotional indifference towards things that most of us would consider disturbing
i mean, in extreme cases of course, some people regard so-called reality as just another virtual world where there are no consequences

anyways, this documentary is just one man's experience with his own son... i dont think its meant to expose or incite fear of some international epidemic

as said earlier..its biased. they only showed the parents that are over protective.

"I physically turned the hard drive off, he grabbed my wrist and twisted it.."

Alright you can't turn just a HDD off, you turn off the pc; now if someone did that to me I'd be pissed aswell, sitting there minding your own business not bothering anyone then just turn it off.

You touch my pc you damn better be ready for some hell, I payed money for all my stuff, I don't want someone to mess it up because they don't like me playing a game.

biased, sure.
but over-protective? i dont agree
being a concerned and responsible parent doesnt necessarily make your over-protective

"These are particularily effective combat simulators... Or murder simulators, for kids".
What. The. ****?

EDIT: If I ever get into one of these seminars about violence in video games, I'd stand up, steal the mic, and tell them that THEY'RE the ****tards for giving their kids the damned things in the first place. The ratings are loosely made by the video game makers? Of course, but the video game makers know the games better than the parents who don't read the ****ing labels and buy them for their kids.
The store selling your underage child M rated games? Go to the store. It's illegal to do that and they're in the wrong, not the devlopers.

What a boring documentary. I couldn't force myself to watch more than 10 minutes.

No I would never twist my mom's arm, but damn straight I'd yell at her.

I'd do something like that instead, I'd tell them they are pathetic sitting at a seminar listening to guy talking about kids murdering people when he doesn't even know why the kid did it in the first place. Oh he shot people in the head, I think its quite obvious if you are trying to kill someone an easy kill would to be ceasing their brain function.

Hell I've been playing FPS's since Doom was first released in 93, I haven't gone on a killing rampage or have planned on it. Some people in that video were VERY biased.

True, but excessive videogame playing is indeed an unhealthy lifestyle. one should vary what they do to a reasonable extent rather than focus on just videogames. Everything in moderation is the way to go. generally, If you can't do something in moderation you shouldn't be doing it.

Very good documentary, too bad about the biased view (his own sun being addicted to it) and the small errors that, while unimportant, stab gamers in the heart with a rusty stake.
Oh, and that idiot video game crusader. That was just stupid. Not as stupid as Jack Thompson (Can someone actually become more stupid?), though.

:p

It actually ends pretty well. The Father realizes that it dosent make anyone voilent. You guys should watch it all.

Old btw.

Don't know that exactly, but he is very good. Or was. I don't remember the year when I heard of him :(
I think it was 2000 or 2002. Don't remember D:

Same here. Well, expect for my friends getting addicted.
Its just to hit the news. Media is messed up, its corrupt. It is what makes this world what it is. Media scares and all.
I'm more afraid of a media scare hitting the news (Everyone gullable and all. Riots break out etc.) then getting shot by a guy with a gun to my head.

yeah maybe this old man should play a video game. i know my dad got me into them and he still plays. and as far as school marks dropping he odviously has a problem with priorities school way more important

this makes me sick i hate people like this he is using his sons extreem case of idiocy to make other kids pairents kick them off of games

Very old- you can see at the E3 segment Blue shift on display, roflmao..

Although I dont agree with the narrator/father I think its a good docmentery.

What I found most hilarious was the "Cop Trainer". Which was Quake, but they called it DooM in the documentary because their sources are flawed. Then our Game Crusader guy bitches on about how children play these Murder Simulators while cops are using them to become insensitive.
That's right. They play Quake. A highly sophisticated, very strategic and very deep game. And according to the crusader, completely modified to make it as realistic as possible. Which is bullshit. The game was exactly as it was shipped a few years before the documentary came out.
Haven't these people ever heard of SWAT 3? Or SWAT 2? Or Police Quest? Or ANY game that involves policemen in some way or another.
No.
Quake.
****tards.

I love how he says "One team creates a terrorist clan and detinates a deadly bomb" Why not begin with " A team of people join a counter-terrorist force to stop terrorists from planting a bomb"?

Cuz they need every ounce of BS they can dig up?
*shrugs*

That's bs.. I am a CS player and a co-owner of a clan and I play cs about 5 hours a week or less. And I go to school every single day and my average is an A. I'm on the PC a lot (more than I should be) and it has no effect on my grades. I pass almost every test, always pass my finals, ect. I have had a job and my time there was over (not fired) and I'm getting a new job again soon.

This is just another biased interview with people who don't know a lot about games.

Well, the ending of it is still pretty cool. I think it makes up for all the crap.

I watched to the end. At least the father was open minded to it, I simply didn't like the whole whining bit with other parents and the dude from the army. Quake for army tactics lmao.

Army tactics = Twitchy fingers + Rocket jump

GG

Adults can be so ignorant sometimes. Every time I watch a documentary about a teen's behavior in ANYTHING, the adult always is making false conclusions. How do I know this? Because I'm one of them, I'm a teen.

Maybe they should let intelligent teens gather the information and make the conclusions. Adults don't know everything, and they don't think like teens do. Therefor they should not be allowed to spew these generalizations and false conclusions.

And that "army" part so had to be faked. Sorry but I don't think they'll be using rocket launchers in CQB like that

Dude, I wanna join the army now, I could finally use my rocket jumping skills in real life!

Odds are they'll give you the railgun. :sniper:

But first you must master the art of whoring power-ups before you rocket jump.

lol, i've watched the first 5 minutes and now i want to go play counter strike source,,, wooha se ya
