A Day in the Life...

So, here we are, HL2 re-inacting Doom III, with it's endless array of delay's and mis-directing truths.

Doom III and HL2 now have their release dates set to April '03. Two ungoldy massive and huge games showcasing their releases at the same time. Think this is it, do you think that this could possibly finally be the release date that means everything? Or will they just delay again?

Oddly enough, despite what I want to be true, I have this strong inner urge to go with the thought that HL2 will once again be delayed. I'm wondering how many HL2 sites will fall until the game is finally released.

How many fans will be turned down, how many will turn away? How much must the communitee cry out and beg for a game promised so long ago? This is driving me and many others insane. The communitee needs half-life2... now!

But... what can we do about it? nothing... that's what. I wonder how long ATI will hold off their XT cards for valve? They are surely under a lot of pressure for their release dates. How much longer will ATI hold off, until they forget about valve, and just release the cards anyway?

If ATI went ahead and just released the cards, you guys should be very affraid, it would show that HL2 is definately delayed longer than ATI is willing to wait.

If HL2 would have released when originally scheduled, (not that they could due to the hacker), they would have demolished competition. Maybe that has something to do with the hacking? It seems most logical that a gaming company hires a hacker to force HL2's delay and steal the code. After all, there are 3 major FPS games that are coming out that wouldn't have a SHOT at the gaming market if HL2 released. Considering how much money is put into those games, like farcry, you never know. Millions at steak, im sure it's a possibility. After all, all the games will now be released without HL2 in sight, nor Doom III. And both have same release date, maybe Doom III got black mailed.. or something.

Enough of that though.

....I want to play Half Life 2... really bad. I don't want to wait until April either.

Damn it.

I doubt HL2 will be delayed past April. Don't see a real reason for that.. prolly will be released before that (or, I can hope.. ), ah well, assuming Far Cry hits its release date, I'll be happy

Well any delay is a good thing, it means they won't be cutting features or have an unpolished game. They want this game to be what they promised it would, and that's more important then when they promised it'd get here.
At first it pissed me off that they were vauge with us, they had their reasons though, it's not like they got off on messing with the community, especially because of how responseive they were with our questions.
Um... i sorda lost the focus of where this was going. All in all though, they'd only delay because they need to for production time, it's not likely that the sales will be too impacted by the time of year considering the history and promise for the future this game has.

One thing I've noticed, Vavlw say one date and they miss it for cs:cz and hl2, but other sites have claimed even before the release that the games wouldnt by out then.

Something to remember - listen to other sites first for once.....
And valve being quiet? Maybe they are just trying to finish make the game....
DOnt forget that HL1 had the same problem but it was still a brilliant game, so WAIT! and no more threads on the delay plz

Funny; CS:CZ went Gold last month, it's date was set for today, yet it's not here; I don't see a reason for that.

I'm trying not to get off on a Steam rant, but it's really hard.
Steam has now caused 2 delays, and VALVe won't admit to it being the problem. I guess they're going to announce CZ was never finished either, and contradict all previous statements.:dozey:

Yep. I agree, the reason CZ was delayed *HAS* to be STEAM, seeing as how CSX went gold at a later time and STILL came out yesterday.. and that has nothing to do with STEAM

HL2 being delayed because of STEAM.. I dunno, it's probably part of it, but definitely not the whole reason

It may not be the "whole" reason, but it looks like a big part of it.
Remember, up until 2 weeks prior to release, the game was finished and being polished up...then suddenly it's "nowhere near completion, it's not done, etc."

I wonder what VALVe's statement will be on this...if they give one.

Yeah. I'd say the two main reasons are STEAM and the source theft.. but that's just me. STEAM seems to be almost perfectly stable now, barring there's been no stress test since the new content servers.. BRING BACK THE HL2 MEDIA! /roar

If Steam was stable, CZ wouldn't be getting delayed.:dozey:

Then again; I don't work at VALVe, so I can't be 100% sure I'm right about this. I can say I'm pretty sure, and I'm willing to bet almost all of the community would agree.

I agree that steam is, if not the whole problem, at least most of it. The thing that bothers me the most, is the compleate lack of any PR what so ever. I can deal with HL2 and CZ being delayed, but being kept compleatly in the dark about everything really sucks.

Anyhow, CS:CZ is a good idea, in theory, but, I'd of much rather purchased a single player mission based game than bot match.. the REAL reason I was looking forward to CZ was the new multiplayer models.. they looked astoundoing for the HL engine, but now, those are scrapped as well as Ritual's work..

oh well, atleast some of Ritual's work will be included in the "deleted scenes" extra

Good to see some optimism...I'm slowly losing mine.

Sorry guys, I know I was so optimistc a few weeks back...but I've gotten worn down on this issue. Mainly because I have too many real-world things to worry about, rather than a game's release date. No, I don't mean any insult, at all. I'm simply too busy to care when the game comes out. Hopefully Steam will be ready then, and VALVe will suddenly release it.

stick with it man, I recently went through a rather rough patch myself too, just realize that life (as corny an analogy as it is) is like a roller-coaster, rest assured your going to have bad times, but remember even bad things dont last forever.

as for the release date I went through my doubting phase, and I got my pick up from Dr. Freeman

Actually; These aren't bad times for me, they're good. I'm just way too busy to bother with getting stressed over something as trivial as a game.
I've grown up enough to where I don't get bent out of shape over bad times...I face them head on and show 'em who's boss.

To give you a rough idea of my age: I'm a NAVY Recruit, I have an 8 hr a day job, and may very well be getting a second one here pretty soon.

BTW: I did have two jobs last week, then I quit one of them.

Programming is hard, I know, I do it.

It annoys me when people complain about release dates not being met, it's pure luck if you make a release date with games. Unless you want to end up with a product like Sim City 4.

I'm sure if Valve were like any other developers, suffering extreme pressure from their publisher to release an unfinished product, you would have the game by now, and it would suck.

seriously.. just some general advice to folks.. go out to a hockey game or take in a football game..

go play Call of Duty or Max Payne2.. theres tons of things to do to take ur mind off HL2.. and since the trend as been no news, no new media, chances are u won't miss anything important here..

pple just need to find stuff to do, thats all

Just to make up for my dissa pointment i had to get Max Payne 2 (finished it in 2 days ;( ), Halo (waste of HDD space but ,ok if you are desperate) and FIFA 2004 (not even as good as FIFA '99 on my PS1 ).

Im hoping simpsons hit and run can add some cheer to my life:cheese:
