I play a lot of cs, and I have for years. And there are a few things I notice a lot of newbies doing lately that I feel the need to enlighten them about.

1. Flashbangs in pubs.
Never EVER throw flashbangs while you have living teammates. Ever. You don't know what your doing, the only people you blind are your teammates. The only time you should ever throw a flashbang is if you are the last one on your team left alive and you know right where the enemy is. And even then you may just get rushed with it out. I know its cool to flash a guy then rush in and kill the blind fool, but for every time that happens 30 teammates are killed by overzealous players lobbing nades into a room full of teammates. Note that this is different with a well organized team such as a clan or a lan party, this only applies to pubs.

2. Distance and positioning
You should never be closer than 6 feet, or farther than 20 from the guy in front of you. You need to be able to cover them and be far enough away that you aren't going to block them. Make sure you are not lined up with respect to where the enemy will be coming from or you may just be a two-for-one for some awper. DO NOT just stand right next to a guy who is straifing out into a hallway and firing bursts, or else you WILL get them killed. Also be sure to give people going through tight doors room to come back if they need to, this is a big problem on aztec at the double doors. And if you aren't going to cover the guy you are following, just go another way. They will be expecting some cover fire if they rush, and if you don't do it you may as well have flashed them. Bringing me to the next point

3. Cover Fire
On a non-ff server you do not need to check your fire. This doesn't mean waste ammo, what it means is that if there are enemy coming from some spot, and you have some teammate who could be flanked from this location, put some fire down. shooting a few shots into a box or a dark corner just may get you a cheap kill, and save the life of a teammate.

4. The Mic
I know you think you can sing, but you cant. shut up.

5. The AWP
A good rule of thumb is never be the first guy to awp. I know its a part of the game, but in the hands of someone who knows how to use it the awp is thourally unfair. The same applies to the autosniper.

6. FF servers
On FF servers you NEED to check your fire. Be sure of your teammates position as often as possible so if you do see someone coming for you, a shot fired is not likely to get you slayed. If you are shot or killed by a teammate do not retaliate. All retaliation will do is make them retaliate again, and pretty soon your getting slayed every other round. Just let it go.

Follow these few simple rules and everyone around you will enjoy the game a lot more.

It's not complete newbies, it's those ****ing 1.6 assholes.

I just hope people will see this post and read it. I'm getting tired of the teamflashing blockers that are autosniping all the time.

I think your point on flash grenades is invalid. I can't say how many times lobbing a flash grenade into the upcoming hallway with teammates right next to me has saved us, on a pub. Most people end up rushing with everyone and hurling all of their grenades right at the start, but if you're smart, you'll hold onto them and use them when you're stuck in a small shootout.

But yeah, I agree with most of your points.

What I really am annoyed with is the amount of non-team players. At certain times in a game, you might know that there are a few guys around the bend. No one has a grenade, so the only thing you can do is rush, or fall back (but you'll get chased), so I usually teamchat, "Rush in!" I start rushing through the doors in front of us, boom, I die. I wait hopefully for my teammates to kill those who slayed me, because they'd be caught offguard.

Nope. My corpse is alone. Teammates are crouched behind cover far away from the door.

WHY?! TEAMWORK! It's a game, you die.

My opinion on the AWP is kind of a mix. I absolutely loathe people who stay in one spot, not relocating or anything, for the whole match. The other day on Dust2 (I think) we had some jackass camping from the T spawn, just sitting there round after round doing the same thing, saying stupid taunts like, "*sigh* next....", etc. Really annoying. After a few tries, I killed him with a normal sniper rifle.

But, I don't mind the guys who relocates while sniping with an AWP. As long as you act like a sniper with it, and you don't camp in the spawn, or in some other area the entire game, I don't mind it.

Snipers arent the big problem I have with the awp, its the people who can run around and use it like a shotgun.

It is true that on a high skill pub with a team all on the same page choice flashes can be used to great effect. But, this is very very rare on pub servers, even high skill ones. If your whole team is together on a plan and everyone knows who is going to be flashing then yes, flashing is a great tool, but genreally speaking that only happens with clans and people playing from the same location. Once in a blue moon you may find a team who can deal with flashbangs, and my advice would be to wait untill you are positive your team isn't going to rush in once you throw a flash before you buy one.

I think the watch word here is- consideration.....next time you are thinking of doing something numb or foolish- think about what you are about to do - THEN DONT!

Idiots who teamflash right at the start of the round for no reason other than to screw the rush, they're the ones who really get on my tits:(

Yea, I left them off the list because they know damn well what they are doing. Its best to find a server with a playing admin who can kick lamers like that.

Also, I would like to add "porn sprays" to the awp category. Never be the first guy to start spraying porn, wait for someone else to spray some AND for a comment from a regular. You could just say "Hey, is that allowed here?" and earn some brownie points if its not. This way you most likely wont get banned from a server run by mormons for spraying your super-hot animated sailor moon lesbian spray. And dont spray sick stuff guys, keep it clean enough that a fairly normal adult looking at it would be arroused and not disgusted. After all, the point is to catch people off guard while they are looking at it, not to get them to disable decals :).

I heard someone *trying* to rap over the mic a couple days ago...

I don't have a problem with *ONE* AWP user on another team as long as he doesn't use it as a close quarters weapon, It's just when a good old game of cs_office turns into awp fest 2004 where everyone is running around shooting ppl 3 feet away unzoomed with their awp when I start to get angry.

Bump in the hopes that more people will read it.

I just don't know why AWPers don't user real weapons. Like Scouts. XD.

Also, Shouting stupid mumblings into a microphone is stupid. If you're trying to guide your team, don't speak poorly. use the tool-tip or Team-chat when easily done.

Having said that, our servers (B33f) don't have as many fools like that, with barely any Team-flashers (I learned about team flashing a while ago), so if you need to get away from noob servers, go to our ones.

*/Server plug*
:D

I never see anyone on the hl2.net servers though.

Plus I tend to ping around 110 on them, which isn't as playable in cs:s as it was in older versions.
