a few questions in same thread to stop spamming threads...

1) Is everyone really sure that we will get something today or are we all just guessing and hoping?

If we DO actually get the benchmark will it be the tech demo? or a very good looking indoor area?

2) do you think that the E3 video showed the best parts of the Whole hl2 game?

i mean what will be better then fighting a strider, riding a buggy, watching the hydra attack and a street fire fight?

3) do any of you think we will get the new footage that some people said some managers from a game company saw?

sorry for all the questions. rather do it this way then having a thread for every question. also alot to talk about :).

Well, then let me ask my stupid question. What exactly is a 'benchmark tool'? I just thought it was some program or something to tell me how much my computer sucks. Please elaborate any answer I receive and fellatio will be in order.

PLz explain in detail.

hl2 = coolest game ever

bench = thing you sit on

mark = thing you make with pencil on paper

hl2 benchmark = program that tells you how good your computer will run with hl2

benchmark will be like the movies you see, except they will be rendered by YOUR machine, and you can see how well YOUR machine handles these scenes. thats a basic explanation

Nobody really knows. It s probably just a small file thats reads through your pc hardware then it will give an estimate(from predetermined benchmarks) of the settings you can use with HL 2 .

1) no one can be sure about valve releasing almost anything...
the benchmark is *sigh* NOT the tech demo! it will not be controllable.
it's like watching a movie that's directly rendered from your pc, to show you how well it runs hl2.
if you STILL don't get wtf a benchmark is, check www.futuremark.com.

2) i think these were 'just' some cool parts of hl2 valve wanted to show off with.
i think hl2 has a LOT more for us in common.
(if that's the way to say it?)

3) i don't think we'll get ANY new footage.
we'll just have to wait for the game to release.
i mean come on, just be realistic please!

Thank you, kind sir.

1) I'm hoping. no-one can be sure. Except Gabe that is :)
2) Nope. Just some eye candy to get us all hyped up
3) If we do, it'll have to be something new. So technicaly yeah.

1) I hope they'll release at least an "empty demo".
With "empty demo" I mean some kind of full-functioning game engine but without enemies, no weapons, no objective to achieve, nothing more than a level (or a portion of one), maybe the docks area or the center of City 17, to free-roam the environments.
I like free-roam.
I'm simply curious to see how well they managed to reproduce a realistic environment, such as a City, with all the details involved...
In GTA3: VC, for example, I spent (and currently spendig) lots of time just driving through the city to discover every corner I haven't seen before (ironing some grannies to the road once in a while, of course...).
I'd love to do the same in a HL2 demo... except for the lack of grannies :p

2) I don't think so. I can estimate that the E3 movies covered less than 5% of the full game environments.

3) That would be great. That would be really appreciated by /me.
