Hello, and my name is thecookiemonster. I have been a halflife gamer for about 6 years now and have done a little modding / skinning work on the side. But I want to make a mod. But with making a mod like I want, (A rather large mod) It takes alot of skills and time. And hopefully I have found the correct place to get idea's and information and to get questions answerd that I might have. So the first question is.... where should I go(start) first.

I have a idea, I have a great setup around it, and I know how I want the game to work. And I know kinda of what I need. Should I go ahead and create a website and start looking around the internet for people to help me with the project ?

I myself am looking manly just to help out in some area's but mostly just doing project managment and such on the mod. Do you guys have any suggestions or comments? Thank you very much for your time!

Yep, best thing to start off with is a website displaying your idea. Use that to approach prospective staff and they can see your ideas. If they find it appealing, see hope, and join your mod, you can start to get some media created and use that to draw more attention until you can eventually bring your team up to snuff.

That's just a fraction of the process, but concentrate on the short term goals as well as the long term ones!

sweet, Thanks for the quick response! It looks like this place is going to be a great place to stay and chat on :)

Learn some skills. You CANNOT head a successful mod team without knowing the basics behind mapping, coding, modelling, skinning and animation. Preferably all of them and being fully abled in at least one.

And write a complete design document (many examples are available on the net and in these forums). This document will make sure everybody in the team knows exactly what the Mod will be. Don't keep your ideas in your head, write them. If you can successfully write a design doc then you have made of the most important prossess. sickre is right, you have to know the basics of modeling, mapping, coding etc. to lead a team but writing is also a talent so I would suggest you to start with that instead of starting to build a Web site. Nobody is gonna join a team if the leader doesn't know where he's going. Make sure your concept is fun, original. And please, please, don't remake a game that has alreay been done by other compagnies and call it "nameofthatgame Source" (especialy if don't own the rights for the game).
