A G-Man sketch

he looks a lot like an ape, but you've definitly got something. Keep up, practice does perfection (and some tuts too :)

You need a little more practice, some of it had too much detail also.

Just keep practicing. :)

I discovered artpad today and this is one of the doodles I did, so I figured I'd post it in an appropriate forum just to see what people think.

well, you draw better than me.

but, why did you have to draw the scariest thing imaginable?

Very nice, but yer it does look a little... ape-ish :D

Yeah, I knew it looked a bit ape-like (of course people are of the same family). That's because I emphizised the shading around his mouth too much, and there's no eraser in ArtPad.

Eeek! Why are you drawing like that? No reference lines! No wonder it's going to look weird! How can you just draw freehand like that, drawing where you "think" a part should go. I gaurantee you it will always look bad!

Always always always plan out your drawings. It will always look odd no matter how hard you try to eyeball it.

I don't think you need reference lines at all. I know a few talented drawers who don't need to sketch any light lines or reference lines, they can just do it. I would only attempt that if you were experienced at drawing though.

You don't need reference lines at all. Reference lines for me at least are sometimes helpful but mostly annoying.

It is good to use reference lines when you are inexperienced. By "inexperienced" I mean "don't draw for four hours a day." It is always a good idea to use them with faces and stuff just so you don't screw up the proportions.

That was pretty cool, though :)

At the slow slow rate he was drawing, he most definately needed reference lines.

I seem to have stirred up confusion, i didn't mean EVERYONE needs them, I meant that he needed them.

Definitely Ape-ish looking only because of too many lines but not bad at all.

I think people would have been a lot more generous with their praise if just the mouth and jowly bits had been a bit better. No artist myself though, + it's good otherwise.

Normally I do use reference lines and plan out my pieces when drawing people, but...

A) There's no eraser in that program so any reference lines you make will remain unless you cover them. It would have looked even sloppier if I had used the Loomis method or something to make the head.

B) It was a quick sketch, not a serious piece, so lighten up. If you want to just come in and call my work bad, then you should post something you did.

You know, it's funny. I can beat a UT Godlike bot in instagib 4 to 1, but I can't move a mouse accurately enough to draw NEARLY that well. My lines seem to fling off by as much as 45 or 90 degrees. I don't understand. I guess I'll just stick to pencil and paper. :)

Very good, now buy a tablet and practise until he looks alittle more human :)

I'm assuming you used a mouse, that's very good

Eh. With some practice youll get really good, but that didnt look like the gman :/ More like a monkey.
