An ongoing argument in my class is why is Half Life 2 such a step and what makes it worth taking a day off college for.
Anyway, heres my list so far - if anyone can add to it you guys can
a) GRAPHICS
b) Realistic characters with believable face and voice technology to make them look and behave realistically.
c) Advanced animation so characters can shoot, talk and move there head and give a facial expression all at once, dynamically.
d) Advanced learning ai that will realistically calculate how to get to you (the infamous door is blocked, ai kicks the door in while the other solider breaks the window and shoots in)
e) Advanced modding ability and tools, allowing core aspects such as shaders to be added and edited
f) Realistic physics that actually effect gameplay (barricade doors, block shots by draggin objects in your way)
g) Intruiging story which has been kept mainly under wraps (What happened to Gordon? Why is he here? Whats happening in city 17?)
h) Vehicles \o/ Whole sections of coasts to drive around.
i) Squad combat. The guys helping you out are now clever enough to work in formations and back you up at the right times. You can also give them commands etc.
j) Full support for all that sound crap, apparently the music and sound effects are amazing too.
k) Scripted sequences, Valve are the kings and creators when it comes to them.
