a little bit of HL2 in HL:S

in HL1 this was a simple "jumping puzzle"
in HL:S you must use barrels to lift up the bridge, just like in hl2 (canals)

lol, They r from a High Defintion Pack that came with blue shift for the Oringal Half life

Originally, you had to shoot a cage to release the barrels to create a floating bridge, IIRC. So it's just been modified. Maybe the floatation properties of the new barrels are different... maybe you wouldn't be able to walk across new-style barrels?

I thought you can't pick up stuff in HL:S like in HL2?

I guess you can. Or push them, or something.

I noticed the HL2 barrels myself when I played through HL:S the first time. I did the whole one eye-brow lift look of inquisitiveness (think "Spock")

BTW, no you cannot pick up items in HL:S as in HL2. This is simply an exception to the rule. For whatever reason Vavle decided to replace the old barrels with the new ones from HL2 that had properties assigned to them the HAVOC system recognized. The same thing could be done with the other barrels and crates in the game but it would require a degree of coding, recompilining of maps, etc. by Vavle...

Unless they release the map files to the mod community, then we could add normal maps and physics ourselves.

i have blue shift CD but how do i get the high def pack to work with hl source in steam?

They most likely changed it due to the physics upgrade.
In the older version you could easily walk over the barrels - but now I reckon you would slide off if you tried.

They simple reused their idea to bypass this gameplay change.

hmm.. so the high def pack now works with Steam?
am i reading that right?

The way it worked in original HL years ago:
1) Aim at box
2) Press use
3) Move

Uh unfortunately, no the HD pack on the Blue Shift CD does NOT work with HL:S (or any Source engine game). I was bummed about it myself when I found out.

However, the gang over at the H.I.T. forums have converted a few of the Super Def models from the PS2 version that you can download (all the weapons and most the characters). There are some minor bugs that are being worked on, but they are vastly better then the originals. If I recall correctly you will have to register in order to get to them, but they are worth it, believe me.

You can also get several hi-res textures in this thread, for those who are interested.
