The last three days has been most difficult.
Rumors filled the internet. Then more rumors filled the forums. All hyping up the upcoming demo release.
Gamespot declared that they will be the FIRST to release the demo. Note that EA has not said anything definate.
All the world shows up tonight expecting to see and hear Ben say Here is the Demo and the link and downloads are up and running.
What they got I think was a one liner at the very end of a lengthly interview filled with information that EVERYONE has heard before.
By the time the Gamespot pulled the plug on the live interview the hatred and anger filled the Teamspeak connection that held hundreds of people. Many people left only to be instantly replaced by those refreshing the connect function to enter the Teamspeak.
EA is the word of GOD regarding the game.
Gamespot botched thier chance at everlasting glory and a place of honor among the gamers.
BF2 is a game that will be released the end of June, the demo being only a week ahead of the retail release really does not matter.
The community....
We ALL showed up ready to play BF2 tonight.
What a mess.
I think tonight I saw the power of the internet. I was one of the first gamers with 249 others to particpate in a 250 man FPS server with Novaworld and actually played a few games even if it is only 5 fps.
That is alot of people.
I have played with G4 during the JOE Special being aired live via Dish network and earned a Elite Fragger honor with one other AWG among a player list of 150 and a audience of thousands. Unfortunately the air time that they devoted to the game was very little and the viewers did not really get to see the action in the game.
That was exciting.
But what happened tonight, seeing 600 People tied into one Teamspeak channel while listening to our AWG Ventrillo server for those who could not join the Gamespot Teamchat Live.
Assuming that every 3 attendee at the Teamspeak had another channel set up for that squad to listen in... that 600 was probably 1000-2000 People and who knows how many live internet viewers were watching the gamespot's live presentation of the top people talking about the game.
No one wanted to hear about the game. They wanted ONE thing. The demo.
Literally the gaming community was all assembled with computers upgraded, expensive hardware parts bought, defragged, cleaned of virus etc.... a ARMY of gamers in a community intent on one thing. Fighting a war game with each other and friends etc for the rest of the week and into the weekend.
To hear Gamespot say ... nope. No demo here, we are quality controlling the thing and dont really know exactly when it will be out.
That gentlemen was a waste of three days of my time. Fortunately I am in a resting stage preparing for my new work and it impacted little in my world.
But Many many many folks have called in sick, took time off from work, cancelled social functions and dates... made time for whole SQUADS of up to 100 or more players to assemble via the internet with voice comms hot and ready to rock.
It would have been FAR FAR better that Gamespot should NEVER have executed this bad interview. They did not need the exposure because we all were waiting for the game.
EA should have been more open with information that might have saved everyone the rumors and the agony of waiting.
The community should be ashamed of themselves for threating to fill inboxes with hatemail, burying the janitor in phone calls, etc etc etc...
We are gamers. Not 7 year olds. No.. wait.. let me take that back...
what I saw tonight reinforces what I have been suspection all along.. we are all children, whiny, demanding and full of anger when we dont get what we demand...
Just like a child throwing a tantrum because mommy says no candy in the grocery store.
Who are we? The gaming community? If so... then the companies that make games for us... they need to come down from the ivory towers and share the information with us.
