a quick question:
according to my steam account, it says that, "a locked copy of half-life 2 is now on your computer. pre-order the game now and play it immediately after it's officially released!"
does everyone have the second part about pre-ordering, because I pre-ordered and this makes me a bit nervous???

thx

ok a couple questions are you using the same account that you preordered it on??

Yep, that's just a standard message.

Of course as long as you have parted money for it you've got nothing to worry about. A quick check is to click on "Browse Games..." and find the relevant Half-Life 2 package you purchased.

It should say "You already own this game".

ok, here's the thing (and now I am ready for an onslought of y'all saying things like, "well, you should have known better" and the such):
i bought a guy's Steam account (100% record on ebay with over 80 sales), a Silver account but with no access to CS:S (something i could never understand, but he sold it under the condition that it would not be available, and it's NOT)...
okay, so now I have my account, have downloaded the game, and am getting f**king nervous that I am not getting what I paid for.
btw, Chris_D- it does NOT say you already own this game under the Silver package...
so, now have at me, tell me I made a bad choice, etc. but I would love some constructive help on whether or not my fate is already decided and I got screwed, or whether this is a standard message that you all are getting and there is some hope...

thx again and don't flame too hard- be nice!

There is absaloutly no reason why CSS would not work on a Half-Life 2 activated account, youve been had, theres no polite way to say it!

I would take that to mean that you have half life 2 preloaded but its not purchased. Your able to preload half life 2 without paying for it, but ya cant unlock it till its paid for. It sounds to me like you got screwed.

You got screwed, CSS is included in every half-life 2 package, there is no reason for it not to work :(

You're screwed. You should have just made your own account and bought it yourself.

Do you know or have a link to the auction/ebay auction number?

F**K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please someone else tell me something good... give me hope... I was getting ready for an all-nighter.... SH*T!!!!!

The message you should be getting when you doubleclick hl2 in play games is "when the game is officially released you will be able to play it immediately". Nothing about pre-ordering the game. Also, and I am not sure about this one, there may be something in the license agreement for steam/hl2 (which I have not read btw) which stops you legally buying someone elses account anyway. Sorry

Sorry to say you got jipped.

If the account had it, it would say "When the game is officially released, you'll be able to play it immediately."

And Ebay can't help you get your money back because no tangible goods changed hands. You're fairly screwed.

ebay will have all his contact information however, GET IT

tell me, what was the difference in buying it the way u did vs buying via Steam? if price was the only thing besides CS:Source, u should have been fishy about this deal right from the get-go.

Valve have stated CS:Source is part of the deal when u purchase HL2.. so bells should have been going off in ur head when u were offered that Steam account without CS:Source.

i would check ebay for anything that can protect you... if i remember there is protection for buyers..

it doesnt matter if there is no physical items...

I think you've been had.

If you used a credit card, I would call your credit card company and let them know about it. Most CC companies have a fraud protection that, should, cover this.

If you used Paypal then, good luck.

i was just looking at that ebay link, it doesnt say Half Life 2 under "Games Included". They are listed under "coming soon" and also say you'll be able to play them without any other purchase. You wern't had, you just bought something from an idiot who was only selling the back catalogue of games.

thing is people would love to get the game cheaper

sure...but close to, or on release day? ur kidding right?
u might HL2 for a cheaper price.. say 4-5 months from now.. but not a few hours from release.. sheesh :p

The seller also states 'no additional purchase required'.

With a good record like that, I think its doubtful that hes trying to rip you off. Have you actually spoken with him?

Did you have a steam account on your computer before you purchased this one? Have you made sure you're logging into the correct steam account?

Also, can I advise you to ask this question on the Ebay community forums. They are full of people who will be able to help you better than the people here can.

Finally, with the account information you have, email Valve and ask them for help, they can tell you if you have the game or not.

I'm not gonna defend myself, or say it wasn't a "fishy" auction for the well-versed (to be honest, I was never really in the HL scene, play mostly BF1942, Far Cry, etc. so the warning sign of no CS:S wasn't so glaring for me). the guy has been decent so far, so I imagine I'll get a refund, but I just wanted to find out if I should just purchase the Silver package now (btw- is it worth the extra $10 for DoD?)
anyways, I at least have all the games on my hd ready to go so now I just need to choose the package and learn a lesson.

well if he is decent, consider urself very lucky.
as for which package...well that depends on u.. i personally think DoD: Source is worth it.. and of course i am the same person who bought the Gold package and am happy with it :p

I would talk to the seller BEFORE buying another copy of HL2 -- I do not that he specifically says in the auctoin that CS:S is NOT included, so possibly he bought it for CS:S and did something stupid (perhaps running or playing a crack) to get himself banned from it? Anyway, I would see if you can contact the seller before doing anything else, and if not, possibly use paypal to dispute it (assuming you bought via paypal, and if not, you just doubled your stupid for the same amount of money!) And in the future, I would be more careful about buying things that you cannot prove they work until too late!

Yes, I am really sorry to break it to you, but you seem have been duped. Everything points to this. Counter strike Source is included in the silver package (!!!). Did you get a registration number or such thing from this person?

I suggest you do this: http://pages.ebay.com/securitycenter/law_enforcement.html

contact teh proper authority and let them handle the matter, save all emails from this person, take copy of the product he advertised and try and come in contact with Ebay in regards to this matter. They should be able to track this person down. You paid the money to his account so he must be registered in person to be able to take the money out. The police can usually handle this, but as i said, contact Ebay security center and ask for advice.

If you are a minor i suggest you bring the matter up with your parents.
And remember.. DONT be duped on Ebay again! Be careful!

When the game is officially released, you'll be able to play it immediately
is the message I get. Of course, I do have an ATI Bronze, that I upgraded to Steam. Maybe that's it?

If you gave a guy 80 dollars for a Steam account why couldnt you have just bought a real version for the same price?

Okay, I guess I'll have to wait til I talk to the guy (he even gave me his phone number, so I'm not really too worried)- just was hoping to play it tonight, but it's not the end of the world.
oh and JB: :p

Guilty as charged

But in all seriousness, its really hard to get anything reversed with ebay. The buyer and seller protection only applies if the buyer/seller is has a certified address, certified whatever. Unless you're buying from a fully "certified" seller, ebay = "buyer beware." Come to think of it, ebay is almost always buyer beware.

guy just replied- I can keep the account (the guy he bought it from apparently was the one who f**ked up) for free- I'll get a full refund and now can buy another version... all's well that ends well and thanks for all the help (except for JB, who I hope takes note of my special message for him...) :)
