Well we've had threads for all kinds of games, but not a proper morrowind thread, and well that sucks. So I decided to start one. It's also an excuse to show off my new character that SixThree fancies :p

So post screenshots of your current and/or favorite characters that you've created.

I'll start!

She's not got a proper name yet, I was screwing around with the character creation pages and decided to keep her. She's a mix of thief and fighter, with a bit of alchemist thrown in.

The clothing is Shade, hence the name. Only way I've found to get the clothing is to fight a very large titan off the coast of Hla Oad, just south west. Best to draw him out to dry land cause he drops all the gear and in the water most of it dissapears. The sword I found while dungeon crawling in the imperial testing grounds aftering finding a corpse with an amulet to get there.

And yes the dog is sniffing the doom guards crotch :p

the dogs shiffing her crotch ;) I think its really cool how the NPC's and your own character looks at things properly. Makes them seem more alive, even when dogs are acting like dogs ;)

I tried to get a few horses in view cause they look great rolling around and just doing what horses do (apart from THAT :p) but they weren't having none of it, and mine was miles away at Balmora so a doggy had to do. There's even some foxes and puppies knocking about somewhere.

I wonder if I can pursuade the guy who made a combine uniform to make me a costume like that? :E

Sorry I don't have a character to show off, but I was wondering what you think of Morrowind? I tried it a long time ago, really liked all the options at character creation, then puked at the horrible fps and drawdistance, and never played it again...

Should I rethink that? I could really do with an rpg right about now..

Are you one of those freaky guys who likes to make all his RPG characters girls?

Sorze, download fps_optimizer and give it another chance. Also google for tips on editing the .ini file. Once you've done that you can get 2x view distance and fast fps. Then install tons of mods and it really does make the game waaay better. Trouble is I start a game, get far in, then start DLing more mods and end up having to start from scratch again to minimize errors. I'm gonna try not DL no more now for a while. Get the complete morrowind set part 1 to 5 plus addons and fixes. Let you cut down tree's, make your own clothes, furniture, weapons, pottery. From the hints regarding making quil's in one of them, it seems like part 6 will let you write books (all this is ingame btw not in the CS)

Pressure, no she's the first one, I normally play as a male elf, thought I'd have a change, the male heads are all pretty ugly to look at all the time so atleast she makes for better screenshots now ;)

Wish i hadn't sold my copy :( I had some really cool pics of me stealing enemies pants...

Puma Man's GIANTS plug-in is reportedly the biggest and best of the Morrowind plug-ins, it was just featured in CGM with high praise.
Already got his Giants Ultimate, some great stuff in it, I think thats where the Titans come from and those are great fun to try kill (I should bold the word try.. they're hard as hell :), waiting now for giants 2 and Wilderness 2. Rumors are he might never release them though *pouts* I hope he does, but AFAIK he's pissed off at people ripping off his work. So I'd not blame him if he didn't.

What the hell?? That's crazy!

All right I'll have to try it again when I have some decent spare time! :)
Might post a piccie of a lovely thief or magician here, if I try it soon enough and the threads still here.

And btw, I am one of those freaky people that only (almost :p ) play with females in rpgs.... More fun that way. :dork:

Sorze, my friend used to have a 5200 and it played Morrowind fine. I have a 9800 Pro and get 30-40 avg.

Excellent character! :D

By the looks of it you've played through Tribunal and Bloodmoon, judging by the spells. I was accused of cheating having all those when I did the Tribunal and Bloodmoon quests first. Just cause I'd got a ton of cool gear from them and all the bells and whistles, wasn't my fault all the best stuff is hidden in the addons, ah well heh.

I used to have a really neat home up in Raven's Rock too, one I'd worked for. But now I'm staying in a house mod outside of Balmora and I've only just started this character, so slowly building up tons of goodies. I'll beat you eventually! hehe. Right now I've only got one particle weapon, i forget its name. Found it on a possessed imperial but haven't used it yet.

Whats the name of the sister sword to the Truflame? I had them both on a past character, apart from being powerful they made for good torches that actually work underwater :D

I think the other is got by fighting the female god in clockwork city, but im not so sure now. That place was weird lol

I gotta agree about the visual packs. Makes a HUGE difference and look great. I'm downloading the predator mod at the moment, so no doubt I'll screw up my save games and have to start again (I knew I'd not last before DLing more mods)

Oh well, mine wins on the shaggable factor :p

You installed Morrowind Enhanced yet? Makes the fighting way more interesting, just avoid using it and fighting the female guards up at black light. I did that once and I think the fight lasted longer than the one in They Live ;)

Damn I really need these addons , internet on the computer that can handle morrowind needed! But mine is just a wood elf female ginger hair and exquitite robe on.
very realistic looking + cute
I like choosing female characters, males are usually so ugly whilst females usually can wear special clothing such as dresses in morrowind, bras in wizards and warriors etc..

Anyhoo ill post my character when i get my internet connection

Here's my motocross picture.

Oh wait! You said morrowind...oh I don't play RPGs, I find them retarded and also ghey. :O

Honestly, whats so fun about standing six feet in front of an enemy and saying "Okay, now it's your turn, gimme all you got bitch!" and waiting for him to say "Take this!" and then he shoots you with his fruity little spell. The spell misses you due to some very lucky and thouroughly unexpected dodging. Wow! You get all pissed and you're like "That's it mothertrucker, I'm sicking my itchy spell on your ass!" You sick your ghey itchy spell on him and he's like "Crap this itches!" and then you win because you have more HP than he does. Why don't you just start brawling like real men...taking turns is for well mannered wimps. :frown:

I recently uninstalled morrowind (+bloodmoon+tribunal, I bought them all). The hollow npcs and shitty combat started to annoy me after a while. That and the fact you're pretty much a demigod by level 30 makes it a meh in rpg sense.

Of course, the graphics and exploration ruled with the mods. I'll probably reinstall it soon, have a lot of time to waste (vacation woot).

Moto-x_Pat, Morrowind is so not like that. Baulders Gate is, if you play it in turn based mode (I'm not much of a fan of the whole turn based type method) Morrowind is quite different.

-

theGreenBunny, morrowind enhanced, up the enemy stats through that, plus a reason for using different attacks, aswell as slowmo and rage (matrix style) modes. Combat was boring without that installed.

Oh...well I still don't like the whole mystical middle ages theme and junk.

You have to look at it from my point of view, this is what I do for fun:
lastyearmx008.jpg

lastyearmx009.jpg

lastyearmx006.jpg

Everything else seems boring and stupid when you race dirt bikes.

Shooting games and racing games are the only kind of games I like. :E

hmm, gimmie a few weeks* and I'll find a way to make them both sound the same :p

*ok maybe a month or so ;)

Now stop killing my thread with Off topic posts damnit :p

Fenric, can you list some essential mods? I want you to be my guinea pig and tell me what works well with Morrowind. :p I can't believe how many mods there are for Morrowind, it is unbelievable.

That way I can actually jump in an start a new character. :)

All the visual packs, anything that improves the textures

Get TESTool and use it to clean and organise all your installed mods, also fixes a lot of bugs (not all of them) and merges leveled creatures, I noticed a lot more misc creatures visible after running this. And less bugs

If you haven't got all three, most mods wont work well/atall

I tried the predator mod, but it crashed while initialising. So yea maybe avoid that unless you really want it. I hear its really good though.

Remember to run TESTool if you stop using a mod, when I removed the predator mod cause of its problems I found all the dialogue was from that, the merged dialogs esp caused it. So run it again without to fix things.

And try to not do what I do, don't install mods and keep running a game from saves, problems usually crop up.

I realized that...but I played it again today and I love it :p I still think it's one of the best games ever.

I'm downloading a Music Add-on pack (found at cnet.com). I get bored of the same music over and over. I had a mod that enhanced the sound (supposedly) but I did not like it. It added a new ambient music and a new battle music track that were excellent. So I need more.

So is it worth it for me to buy the game over again for the two expansion packs?

I've been playing it a lot recently, but I can't seem to create a character that I can really enjoy so I keep starting over... and it's getting boring. :x And the fact that I can't even use most of the mods is annoying...

oh my god... fenric you need to stop playing morrowind! i have it but i never got into it... played about 10/20 hours... i bet youve played about 500 :p

it's a real shame they didnt release tribunal here in portugal.. but that wont make me spend 50 euros for the goty version just to get tribunal..or will it?? perhaps if doom3 doesnt make it untill lets say, mid august..

dunno if you mentioned it, but forget any nude patch, better bodies 2.0 all the way, it even brings an installer!! (i love such plugins)

Hmmm...forgot about this thread. Thanks Fenric.

That will take me days to find and download all of those mods.

Letter: Yes get the GOTY version, its worth every penny, and you'll need bloodmoon and tribunal to use around 90% of the plugins. So its worth it.

Tarkus: Same as above. It's worth getting GOTY, not only is Tribunal a great addon but it opens up even more plugins than Bloodmoon does.

I'm pretty sure I added the better bodies collection somewhere in the list. I know I've got it installed.. atleast I think/hope i have. And I've got the nude patch (people seem to think thats funny to have but it actually improves the game by allowing tons more armor and clothing types to be added that otherwise wouldn't have worked)

Get the fishing academy plugin too. I haven't been fishing yet but I bought the boat and ship and can now sail around, much better than Daggerfall with its stationary ship. Now I can just anchor it off the shores of Vivec and go about my business, or sale up to Khull. There's another one similar in the works that has better features, so I'll be getting that one.

Grab the book, shield, armor, item rotator plugins too, oh and there's that chalk one, very silly but useful.

Few more screenies, had to start again so many times while fixing up plugins so they didn't conflict so much.

Btw, my data files directory is now around 3gb. Ouch :D

I was going to show a pic of one of the Titans, but I've not reached a high enough level yet (still only on 2) and I think they only turn up around 20. I've only got the gear now cause I was sick of going through the motions again and again with restarting a game after installing new plugins, so just made a barrel on the starting area with my stuff :p

ss5.jpg

All those neatly stacked books in the bookcase were done in game with the book rotate plugin. Those in the window are mostly the daggerfall collection and so aren't scripted to work with book rotating. Can even see a sewing machine and some cloth which one of the other plugins (complete morrowind) lets you make your own clothes, there's also one for carpentry, smithing and cooking. There's also a few plugins I installed that let you buy furniture that works are real furniture in the game (can use it not just look at it), the store is somewhere in Vivec, haven't been yet. Also comes with a load of empty houses to decorate... Who needs the Sims when you got morrowind eh? :)

ss6.jpg

My ship in the background and my fishing boat just infront of it. Just before this screenshot was taken, I crashed the ship, shhh don't tell ;)

ss7.jpg

Just outside of Balmora. To the far left you can just make out the castle, a huge building probably able to store every item in morrowind in there. If you had the time/inclination. Oh and yes, horses. There's horses, penguins, donkey's, deer, wabbits, snakes, crows, ducks, geese, flies, bee's, elephants (no oliphaunts sorry LotR fans :) wild silt striders, mermaids I think, Even a unicorn, foxes. Aswell as baby animals all over the place now. You can of course have almost any animal as a pet too. As I say, I have a cat and a dog and a raven (till it drowned ;)) Just if you install Abigail's Pet Shop, don't install thw Guarland quest. I did and it screwed up all my dialogue until I finally managed to remove traces of it. Similar errors as the Predator mod actually. Besides that quest is boring, the island is boring and Quar's are boring.

ss8.jpg

She did have a name but during the process of starting again each time, I forgot it, so now she's just called Nessa until I remember to write her proper name down :p Also got a pet Raven aswell now, alas a few minutes after this screenshot was taken. He erm.. kinda drowned.. oops. Also bottom right you can see I'm taking the piss out of women by having a large pointless collection of shoes. heh :E

ss9.jpg

Another pic of the ship and fishing boat. Did you know you also get a submarine aswell? :) Not as much fun as the ship though, incidently at some point you can upgrade the ship with a cannon too. Role on sea battles heh.

BTW, there's apparantly a couple of mods on the go that add proper grass. Found a screenshots of one finally

http://www.ame.webmk.de/gallery/details.php?image_id=38

Supposedly its all pixel/vertex shaders and animated. Imagine that in morrowind :)

soooo gorgeous looking...all the plugins make it look incredible.

Sure does. Though a few of the giants mod creatures leave a bit to be desired, but they are mostly night-time ones that only appear when its really dark, so all you usually see are spooky red eyes moving towards you slowly. Pretty creepy infact. :)

Wow.. that looks fantastic! Is it some HDR plugin or something?

fenric you're a bastard ;)

right now reinstalling Morrowind and feretting for my save games and furiously downloading mods.

*says goodbye to life (again)*

come september, i'll be the only bloke in london with a glasgow tan ;(

Ive got morrowind, bought it a few weeks back (has tribunal and bloodmoon) but i dont know what to do, the manual sucks and i cant find any help on it.

I want to get the disc out my bro's pc and fire it up, see if i can get somewhere, except dead from robbing something.

Whats the best class/type/weps/starsign to be when your new?

CrazyHarij - no, no HDR in morrowind.

-

Dedalus - hehehe. Best do what I'm doing though, starting a fresh game, a lot of these mods will completely screw up save games.

-

Alig - For new players I'd probably suggest going for a more barbarian type character, build up your levels in heavy armor, long sword, axe and so on. The extra strength helps new players last longer. The neat thing about morrowind is you can then if you want begin to learn other areas without having to start a new character. Though becoming a barbarian type warrior will make learning alchemy a bit harder.

What I did when I first played it properly was do Tribunal and Bloodmoon first, there's a lot more cool equipment knocking about thats easier to get a hold of. Infact to this day I still haven't done the main morrowind quest heh too busy fishing on my boat or decorating my house and feeding the pets haha.

Thanks, game sounds so good and i especially love RPG's.

I do have a problem that occurs when i start the game, i cant remember totally what happens but it fails to load a .csm (or something) and shuts down, i have to start the configurer (sp?) and click "Default" and it unticks something (that i never ticked in the first place)...is this right?

On a fresh install (GOTY) you should only have

Morrowind.esm
Tribunal.esm
Bloodmoon.esm

available in data files.

It's possible you might have installed them in the wrong order (easy done) You have to install Tribunal before Bloodmoon, I've not installed them the wrong way before so I don't know if it causes that error. Only other possibility is a corrupt esm file.

If you've installed other plugins, then error boxes are common place. Best cure for those is to install all the plugins you plan on installing, following the instructions for each one, especially since some conflict with each other, some have fixes, some have different versions depending on what else you want to run at the same time. Use TESTool to clean them all and fix errors aswell as merge the level lists (which tell the game what level you need to be at to see particular creatures, NPC's or events) After a lot of messing around you can usually get it to run with only a few errors popping up, at that point those are often caused by a bug with tribunal and bloodmoon but its nothing serious, its just how the game works.

And get yourself a house mod, gotta have somewhere to horde all your gear :D Just don't expect to see the sun again, apart from the one in morrowind ;)
