A new melee weapon?

What other melee weapons are planned or featured besides the crowbar?

*** You'll have to wait and see on this one

I wonder what it could be. :naughty:

patience is a vritue.

and i reckon melee weapons will be....

Chairs table etc... apparantly you can pick stuff up with your hands ala Dues ex...

radiators chairs bodies with the gravity gun

Knife

Crowbar

some weapons might have a secondary Hand to hand attack IE. in BF1942 some rifles have bayonets.

Congratulations on the most constructive post ever coolio2man (deleted).

I think you'll find that the game will be out when it's good enough to meet yours and everyone's high standards. Not a moment before (hopefully).

tommy, he was speculative on quite a lot of things, so it's hard to say whether there will be or not.

If anyone knows otherwise (from the stolen build), please keep it to yourself.

o yeah secondary attacks, wont that be great. pshhhh.....what do u think it will be? Zoom? A harder swing? A kick? Maybe he can pick up bottles and toss them. What a great weapon that will make.

And thanks for deleting my post, it shows your bigoted superiority over me.

Needs more katana.

Also, speaking about things you can pick up with your hands, I forgot to mention this in the big thread that was all about using your hands in HL2, but since that's fallen by the wayside I'll mention it here:

There are parts in the HL2 videos were there is nothing in Gordon's hands. He's walking around without a weapon selected. Just thought I'd mention this because he had weapons, but didn't have them equiped. And any time you had a weapon in HL1, you couldn't go back to being unequiped.

On the flip side of the coin it removed your bigoted superiority over Valve and the thread starter.

I'm happy to restore it if you wish.

Someone needs attention really badly. Isn't there a thread you should go close or something.

leave chrissy alone! apparently hes hawt!

Five minutes to get back on topic or it gets closed.

Hm, how about a big, thick peice of rebar? I can guarantee it would cause some hurt. OOO, or what about a sledgehammer?

Valve recently confirmed you can use your hands in game to pick things up, I wonder if you can throw things a certain distance too? That'd be cool, but even if it isn't I guess you could drop stuff from the roof of a building on to an enemy below.

acctully that point about the manipulator is a good one, everything imaginable becomes a weapon!

Everything between certain pre-determined weights.

Cardboard boxes won't do any damage (at least you wouldn't think so) and some things might be too heavy.

Cardboard boxes doing no damage? HA! Back in Nam, we used to cut off charlies LEGS with cardboard boxes... Lemme tell you somethin bout Nam bohy... You gotta GOOSE and a FRYIN PAN and 25 Charlies in between you and HQ!

Anywho, if you pick things up with your hands and chuck them, im guessing you can use your hands to punch/grab/GOUGE OUT EYES(!!!) too.

I've stumbled upon a few FAQs that mentioned a fast melee weapon of some sort in their description. Can't say if thats credible and I won't go into detail. That would ruin it for all of you.

them there card board boxes have pointed edges.

they hurt like a bitch if you get hit with 1.

You'd much rather be hit with a crowbar than one of the other melee weapons.

I have a cardboard box!
Ha! pitifull strider and your puny big gun! You honestly think you can defeat me when I have this outstandingly dangerous cardboard box?! it's edges really hurt you know! I'm telling you, they bloody do! Anyway, I think you should re-evaluate your chances of destroying me!

But more to the point I wouldn't think there will be anything else melee wise for Gordon to utilise than his allready - friendly friend Mr. Crowbar. But if you can actually pick up items with your hands, then there isn't really any reason as to why you wouldn't be able ot punch etc. Although I wouldn't mind slapping a few enemies about with a dead headcrab.

I'd love to get a mod for HL2 that gets rid of the weight limit for the manipulator, that way i could just pick up a car and take out the legs of the strider. TIMBER!! that'd be awesome

Alyx had a wrench in her hand in a picture didnt she? I would fancy she would care to share a bit o' that.

it will be fun to throw stuff off of buildings onto a combines head. hopefully if he falls over and doesnt die he'll drop his gun. then all id have to do is grab his weapon with the manipulator, go to the street, and proceed to beat him to death with my crowbar.

That's most likely gonna be one of the first mods to come out I bet!

....

I still think the use of hands mostly means you see the animations when gordon flicks a switch or turns a wheel on a blast door.

Shame you cant use the weapon itself in close quarters. Say your out of ammo and a combine is really close - then bludgeon him with the butt of your shotgun :) Like in CoD or something like that.

im thinking not :p

I really can't imagine the need for another melee weapon when you can use your hands/zeropoint gun to throw things around. As Lobster said, that makes everything imaginable a weapon.

In OpFor you had the knife and the wrench...I predominately used the knife, only switching to the wrench out of boredom or the need to crack open a tough crate in one hit. I don't think another melee weapon is a necessity; it'd just be there for variety.

With that in mind, there are some cool melee weapons I'd like to see:

1. A physically simulated chain.
2. Cattle prod/taser

I think any bladed weapons, rod/stick-like weapons (metal bars, baseball bats), hammers, tools, etc., all those things would be covered by the crowbar, unless you can do more with the tools than smash things with them. If you could actually repair things with them, that'd be handy. If they served in the OpFor wrench capacity, though...useless.

you know, it would be interesting to see if you can choose whether the random object you pick up will be used to bash or throw

like if you are using a baseball, you wouldn't punch with a baseball, but you wouldn't try to throw a stop sign when you can much more easily smack someone over the head with it.

furthermore this bring up another oddity, will the game treat all improvised weapons as being used in the same manner?

what i mean when weilding a tire iron, it is held and swung differently then lets say a folding metal chair. also throwing a baseball bat is very different to throwing a baseball. Not to mention that they will fly or be swung in different ways. A tire iron being quick slams while a stop sign would be swung like a large slow two handed weapon. A baseball bat would spin through the air if thrown while a baseball would go in a more or less predictable arc

Yet they want to implement handheld improvised weapons... Will they just avoid showing the hands? How would they go about the way the weapon is used?

I need to know!!!! gaaaah!

swing = primary fire
throw = alt. fire

I want to see a candlestick. In the drawing room.

I'd love an aluminium baseball bat, like the one I have in the shed.

Soooooooo useful for killing wasps...

How about a fire extiguisher, good for purring out fires, good for an over-arm attack
How about a blowtorch, good for burning peoples faces, good for cutting doors open
What if Gordon could kick or punch

Kicking and punching always look lame in FPS's (RtCW anyone?!). I'm thinking that if there is to be another melee weapon, it would have to provide a different attack to the crowbar. I like the idea of a chain. But maybe the fact we can pick things up means we can use anything rather then a specific selection.

I have a feeling that we may not have the crowbar too much in the game.

well if you notice in the bink videos, the crowbar is no longer the hyperspeed blender it used to be. its a lot slower now so you might have to rely on better weapons for administering beatdownz
