we're talking about 'casual' console fanboys, the kinds of people who only play Halo, GTA and the endless swathe of sports titles.
That brings me to another gripe I have after working at a video game store - so many people today gauge how good a game is by how similar it is to GTA.
I had so many customers ask me this question:
"Hey mate, is this a good game?"
*hands me a copy of say, Burnout 2*
"Oh yeah, it's one of the most fun driving games you can get on any system. The pure arcade style racing and sheer speed of the game make it insane and a great game you can just pick up and play!"
"...oh..cool. Can you get out of the car and kill people?"
"Well, not really, it's not like Grand Theft Auto, it's an arcade racing game.."
"Oh..."
*customer puts game back on shelf*
And I shit you not, I had similar questions about Jet Set Radio Future.
I also had the question "Excuse me mate, is this game like Vice City at all?" or the ever popular "Hey do you guys have that Vice City game?"
Classics like Timsplitters, Broken Sword, Beyond Good and Evil, Dark Cloud, Gitaroo Man, Maximo and Prince of Persia left gathering dust on the shelves because all anybody wanted to do was steal cars and kill people.
