A q and an apostraphe?

A q, an apostraphe, and a weapon error?

My friend is having an issue with his HL2. First, when he goes into HL2 it doesn't say HALF-LIFE 2, it says HALF-LIFE'. It says that for the loading screen and also when he clicks to open it through the my games list.

While in game, he is developing a Q as a crosshair. Not the regular diamond crosshair. The letter Q. That is what he is getting. I don't know how to fix it nor does he.

Also, you know how you click 1 to bring down the weapon menu. Well, my friend clicks 1 and instead of a picture of a crowbar it shows a lower case c, for the 9 mm it shows a lowercase d, for the Magnum its a capital E, for the SMG its the HL2 symbol, and last but not least for grenades its a lowercase k.

This is really weird. Please help.

Get someone to send your friend the font that HL2 uses, and put it where it is supposed to go. It is displaying a normal font, when HL2 fonts are the weapons, crosshair ect.

Same Problem...

I am having the same problem, here is what I have done to try to fix it so far with no results:

1) Copied both of the TTF files from the resource folder from a machine on my network here at the house that has HL2 running with no problems at all... no help.

2) Renamed the halflife 2 content.gcf file in the root folder "SteamApps" and copied a new file to my folder from the same formentioned machine above... no help.

3) Renamed the TTF files from filename.ttf to filename.old and restarted Steam, no update, started HL2 game, no files copied... no help

4) Got pissed and wrote this and went and ate some dinner.

Still looking into what is causing the problem, will send info asap I figure out what the crap is going on and will post here, or check back here to find solution, I hope.
