A question for the cigarette smokers....

I will hate you while I smoke. :|
Every time I light one up I will take a moment of quiet contemplation and attempt to transmit my Haet Waves across the world into your brain.

Your head might explode in a few months. I haven't quite worked out when this act becomes lethal.

The smokers will be the ones suffering in the end. If they don't choose to stop now, they're just asking for it. There's more than enough help out there. I have no sympathy.

No smokers are asking for sympathy unless they're complete morons.

Those of us who smoke - and I consider myself a smoker, although I am not actually addicted - choose to do so knowing full well the potential consequences on personal health and/or hygiene.

That having been said, if you think that I or anyone else in this thread is an idiot for smoking, that's great, but shut the f*ck up because it's my decision to do it. Just like it's your decision to come up to me while I'm smoking and say "Don't you know how bad that is for you?" with a condescending, snotty tone, and it's my decision to reply "Yes," and blow a tarred lungful of cancer smoke in their face.

I smoked a cigarette once... It was a retarded experience. I guess it's one of those things that your body hates until... well, it gets addicted to it. Because cigarettes taste like shit at first.

Good thing I want sweet **** all of your sympathy.

So you're not addicted, which means you can stop "any time you want to" with no consequences other than not hurting your health further and having more money...so why don't you stop?

Is smoking so fun and exciting that it's worth the money and the health risks? You can't possibly not know why you smoke cigarettes, and you already said you know the negatives to it, which clearly must outweigh the positives of not smoking otherwise you wouldn't do it. My problem is that I can't find the positives of smoking that apparently outweigh the positives of not smoking.

I don't smoke not because I think I'm better than anybody else, but because I just don't have $5 to throw away every couple of days; that's 2 gallons of gas, a #2 at arby's, a load of laundry with change leftover, or a matinee movie, and probably a few other things. And to me going 40 miles is more important than smoking a cigarette.

Besides smokers seem to get upset when people confront them about it, which could be another reason not to smoke because if you don't smoke people wont confront you about smoking anymore, and then you wont get upset, and for some evidence:

well put ennui and absinthe, not much else to say really. who do these saints think they are? anyway, i personally prefer Snus but never turn down a good cig or cigar, the latter is a seldom pleasure though.

You don't turn down a cigarette or cigar? :D

I'll buy you 10 packs free, with one rule. You must smoke them all back to back without break! I'll even toss in a couple fine cigars.

"Hi! I'm angry at you because you put something I don't like into your body! Stop doing it and I'll stop treating you like an idiot!"

I can't speak for anybody else here, but a lot of my indignation with anti-smokers is that they assume we are completely clueless about this shit. Like we haven't heard the same things over and over again since we picked up the habit. "Cigarettes are bad for you. Didn't you know that? They give you cancer! CANCER. Do you know what cancer is? It will kill you! Do you know what your lungs are like now? You're shaving twenty years off of your lifespan!" Ad. ****ing. Nauseum.

I'm not going to quit if you act like a jackass. I'll quit when I want to, when I feel like it. It's a vice, but it's a pleasant one, and I honestly do not care. I'm not dead, I'm enjoying myself (most of the time), and I like its social aspects. Contrary to what you and others may think, not everybody is repelled by smoking. Most people I've met, hung out with, kissed, whatever, don't care (if only because they do it too). Maybe it's a cultural thing. I don't know.

I'm not intrusive. I don't foresee myself smoking for the rest of my life. So why should you care? What's with the ****ing inquisition, seriously? I like smoking. You don't. This really should be the end of our discourse.

For truth.

I appreciate your support, Stig.

Regardless, I'm still going to hate you to death.

As long as it doesn't harm others... oh wait.

*shrugs*

Eh, whatever.

I couldn't give a shit about whether people smoke or not, but sometimes they just need to show more respect to the non-smokers. This is by no way a big problem for me, though, as I barely notice the smoke at all. I know people who are really allergic, though, and the smoke ban in resturants and pubs was a blessing for them (as for the staff).

Recently a woman here was banned from smoking in her own garden, but that's taking things too far, IMO.

LOL

Yeah, I get an extremely sore throat from cigar/cigarette smoke, hence why I kinda have a negative attitude towards smokers when they wave their cigarettes in my face. I just tell them my problem and they usually put the cigarette in a different direction, but I hate going to parties where people smoke, because I can hardly enjoy myself or even talk without a raging pain going through my throat.

Please, do allow me to BUTT in. (cue uproarious laughter)

I've only ever smoked once either. It was a "why not" sort of thing, just to say I've tried it, but I can actually say I liked it. The feeling was great, as was the taste - once I got over the coughing - and it just felt kind of cool (I know it's a cliche, but it's true). I didn't like it to the point that I actually took it up (I knew well enough from my smoker friends who actually advise me against it :P), but I can see the appeal, and I won't judge anyone for what they put into their own body.

I think alot of people get hung up on smoking because they see it as a sign of weakness - giving in to your cravings, at the possible endangerment of others (possible - just seeing it from their view). But if you look at it like that, everyone has their vices. Personally, I don't smoke or do drugs, and I very rarely drink, but I eat way too much shitty food. And honestly I'm not sure whether I'd rather have bad lungs or liver instead with the amount of dental work I'm in for at the moment (not to mention shedding that unwanted poundage, lols).

Edit - Oh yeah, and to paraphrase Bill Hicks -

"Non-smokers - obnoxious, whining little ****s. You are the worst advertisement for non-smoking - I'd quit smoking if I didn't think I'd become one of you."

:P

I don't like the smell.

There goes my useful contribution to this thread!

That was a terrible contribution. Absinthe is probably going to Haet Wave you to death for that.

I would like to borrow your tin foil hat please:monkee:

Don't deflect the waves. I don't wanna get any of that shit on me.
