A question for those in the UK (or anyone with general WWI knowledge)

I'm writing a paper on the socioeconomic effects on post-war British society (and conscription policies during the war, etc. etc.) as a result of the annihilation of many "pals battalions" during the early stages of the war (including the Somme). I have my secondary sources ready, with statistics and stuff like that, but what I need is a good primary source.

Do you know of any books that are like memoirs or first-hand accounts of the British Tommy in one of those above-mentioned military units in the early stages of the war?

I'd start with Wikipedia, they have a nice bibliography for the most part:

Check the articles on individual British Army servicemen for references to biographical or autobiographical books:

Lots of info in books like this and used copys are very cheap. I'm reading this one atm and there is lots of info there.

The national arcives is also a good place to look for intresting information but you usally have to pay a small fee. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/
