A Scanner Darkly

Haha. FiOS Grand has me consumed. <3 :D

No. I've only watched the trailer just yesterday. Seems it slipped under my radar as I've never heard of this before yesterday. It does look interesting. I should give it rent, maybe this weekend.

:O

It seems Geogre Clooney was an executive producer.

Looks pretty good though from the perspective of a person who has never read the book the trailer was pretty hard to understand. Can someone give me a basic idea of the plot?

I think the rotoscoping is actually one of the reasons they were able to make this film for so little. They didn't need to worry about makeup, sets, or special effects in the same way that most movies must, since they could just draw it in.

It's kind of difficult to explain, without spoiling things. It's also something that shifts as you go along. Bob Arctor (Keanu Reeves) is an undercover narcotics agent, trying to bust and trace bigtime Substance D dealers. He does this by living with a few junkies and doing Substance D himself. This whole thing is about how Substance D begins to split his brain and he develops two personalities, eventually forgetting that he is Bob Arctor, so his narc personality (Fred) begins narking on himself. It's complicated, and it develops constantly though the movie, so watching it should reveal things :p

Not to mention it was filmed on mini DV (at least Waking Life was, I assume this was as well) which is the same format most handheld consumer cameras use.

i've never read any Philip K Dick's novels. anyone wanna recommend me one?

I just finished two more novels of his yesterday: the Man Who Japed and The Divine Invasion.

I would recommend you read A Scanner Darkly or The Man Who Japed.

awesome, thanks guys. I just bought "The Man in the High Castle".

Just finished another Dick novel, but I already forgot the name. It was about Yance-men, people under the surface, and a phony war.

This guy's immense, even if you don't care about the movie, go read some of this stuff.

it was The Penultimate Truth.

I also just finished another novel by him (I have like 9 from the library) called Dr. Bloodmoney, and it was my favorite so far besides A Scanner Darkly. It was ridiculous.

The movie comes out tomorrow for the lucky few in the major cities... a week left for the majority of the rest of us.

I really was excited for today. I thought it was going to be let out, but I was wrong. I was so disappointed.

Next week is the day I will see it.

Eeeee, tempting.

Unfortunately, my bullshit theater will not be playing A Scanner Darkly anytime soon :|

This is the only movie I think I have ever anticipated. I want to see this.

Blade Runner (really old now) is like, the only favorite movie I've ever had, and this movie is from the writer (or director or something :p ) of Blade Runner! OMFG *dies of excitement before getting to see it*

I'm cooking a pizza. I'm going to stream the first 24 minutes of the movie while I eat. :D

Thanks for the link Joule! You kick so much ass.

I hope this is good.

BTW, there are flash extensions that can rotoscope automatically, with little human interaction.

AND, there are 3D modelling programs that flatten the animations to make them look like they're hand drawn.

Majority of those disney movies with the semi-anime styling are done in a program of the formentioned nature.

I doubt they actually rotoscoped this entire thing :/

They're both based on Philip K. Dick novels, that's it. Blade Runner was directed by Ridley Scott while this was written and directed by Richard Linklater. And yeah, Blade Runner is one of my favorites too.

I just saw this earlier today, had to drive a bit out of the way because none of the theatres near here carried it. The movie was really good, I enjoyed it a lot. The visual style was cool too.

im gonna be seeing this movie tomorrow... *looks at time* i mean later today :p

a bunch of theatres nearby started showing it last week so hopefully i'll get the chance to see it this weekend. i've been looking forward to this movie for a while.
