I have a developing story around this subject (book) but I'm goanna fill you in with the background and beginning

It is near future. I tried to develop a date to the events but my efforts have failed until now. Probably between 2050 and 2100 (given dates are subject to change).
A background is made according to several future analyses by science magazines and books because I want it to be scientifically accurate.

But according to my story, in the 70's (2070-2079) the world was shocked by the announcement of the first artificial living being. A mouse. Made according to a research deal between the US, EU Israel and Russia, X, how the mice is called, is mice born from an incubator, with his genes chosen by supercomputers. Any zoologist would say that he is a mouse but his highly pigmented tail and green eyes don't match any known species of mice.

So in the sequence of this, ARPA is ordered to restart the Stargate project
that had already been restarted in the 40's with «genetically enhanced» human beings but then shut down again because all experiments died though to spinal overload ( their brains were so overdeveloped that their spine developed cancer) and their every attempts to overdevelop the experiments spine failed (mutants were born and obligatorily disposed of). They're ordered to generate a human being with the same tech that managed to grow X «tweaking» them to achieve designated goals - to make a telepathy capable human.

A lab on Nevada desert was created from scratch to host the project.

In the following years, several experiments are done with chimps and other animals, to determine the odds of success. They are established as acceptable and ARPA continues with the project. However the 1st human experiment (B-086) fails. Monitoring determines 2 weeks after the embryo is created that the child is unhealthy and ARPA orders its destruction. More tests are done and the error is found. The supercomputer had an error in databank causing several gene errors in the calculations for 056. The error was corrected and more animal experimentations were made to ensure reliability of the new gene databank.

The 2nd human (C-024) experiment was successful. The embryo developed normally but died due to birth complications. The mix administrated to him seemed to be too low on a few unessential proteins that were necessary due to the overdevelopment of the brain, neural net and spine.

The mix was re-arranged, tested, and the 3rd human experiment (C-028) was generated. It was a complete success, being grown and born without problems.
Its telepath abilities were verified as soon as he was 3, when he started talking about things he had never seen like cities and walking in the country. By that time he had never left underground facilities of the lab were his quarters were. Everyday food was left for him in a small elevator. The only person he was allowed to see was his tutor, Dr. Spears, an expert in child psychology that taught him how to talk and walk. His creators, the S-team remained at the ground levels, always watching with several video cameras and motion sensors.

At the age of 6, with the ability to see into other's mind's greatly developed, Michael, as Dr. Spears named C-028 is permanently isolated since the S-team believes that if saw Dr. Spears mind he would have wanted to get out. His education continued throw TV screens and Dr. Spear’s voice, transmitted throw speakers. However, at the age of 10, Michael starts refusing to listen to lessons when Dr. Spear dies and is replaced. 2 years later, Michael escapes from the lab, destroying the containment doors that separated him from the elevator shaft and went up throw the stairs. No one noticed as Michael blanked the mind from the guards watching him in throw the cameras live feed and got up. He didn't even injure anyone, simply convincing the staff that he wasn't there to get out.

When he got out of the lab, too far away to blank everyone's minds, the base alarm sounded and search teams were dispatched. C-028 was never found.

ARPA, though very disappointed with the escape, agreed to continue funding the project, recognizing the enormous potential of the project.

D-001 was made. Another total success D-001 grew up with no human around, being educated solely by speakers’ voice and screens. Dr. Popov, a world expert in child psychology, the only non-US personnel of the S-team, suggested that he would allowed out several times, that he needed to know the outside world or he would be another renegade. When he was informed that D-001, now nicknamed Daniel would be taken down at the age of 10 for this reason, he planned a way out.
In November 22, 2101, Ivanov Popov brought modified anthrax contained in small glass recipient and a Anti-corrosive gas mask to the installation and released it into the air system of the ground levels, killing everyone inside. He grabbed his gas mask and went down, to Daniel's containment facilities with an independent air system. He drugged him and brought him up, placing on him another mask he had brought. When he went outside, he went to get a small, old civil Cessna he had left in the surroundings a few days before.

He left Daniel sleeping in a LA sidewalk, with only one message - «Don’t trust anyone but…» - and a bar code. He noticed a small cut in his lower back.

- Now this is the back story, and the rest is basically a search for C-028 (Michael) and running away from the Special Forces sent to capture him back.

- My idea was that he had both telepath and telekinetic abilities. Now telekinetic would basically be the powers of the Manipulator so I think code it will be easy if Valve allows us to see it. Now telepathy would be harder, powers like /notarget (so you would be invisible to your enemies) would be fairly easy compared to the rest.

- telekinesis is mostly about moving stuff (HAVOK) but we could generate powers like neck-breaking at a distance and controlling weapons. And maybe even flying powers closer to the end ( telekinetic impulses to the ground can make that) and MDTW (massive destruction telekinetic wave – basically a big wave of destruction that would kill/injure everyone around you and destroy most things too)

- Telepathy would be harder – invisibility (could be easily coded – /notarget)
- mind control (enemies would shoot their former allies and follow you for some time)
- mind vision (throw-walls seeing vision – you would see everything in transparent blue and little lights on the place of people’s heads)

Please suggest more powers and give feedback on the story.

Hey mods can I get this on the general off-topic forum?
No one seems to care in this forum!

You need to wait more than 10 mins...

I will read it and reply with something... hold on.

Okay, i read the story.

Its a good idea, i love to kill some people with telepathy :) I got some flashbacks from old sci-fi movies when i read the story but its till good.

I hope you got a good storyline in the works. You need something to keep the interest in the mod (not the same thing over and over again). You can do alot from the ideas you got.

How will the gameplay be? Will it be a stealth mod?

If it gonna be a stealth style mod, I like it. Less machine gun spraying and more making unwary people bang their heads in the wall until it crack open while doing a very evil laugh :E

Anyway, its a bit confusing to read... But one thing I just like to comment: The story is very... Game. There is no other way to describe it. I mean, a mouse called "X", the "Stargate" project (why Stargate btw?). Then of course a lab in Nevada... Its all very predictable (except the Stargate name, that's just confusing). And the thing with the child psychologist using anthrax to kill people for the kids escape... To be blunt: That's stupid. Unpredictable yes, but very stupid :)
I would advise revising some parts of the story... Overall its good.

I love this idea. But, to make it interesting, you have to impose limits on the player. Is the player's power limited by amount of work, and if so what is the basic unit of work? Is it purely psychic work the character can use? How much and in what ways can the character grow and improve?

I want a psychic psycho ninja killer.
*AHEM*

Are there negative impacts for killing people? After all, he is psychic, it's possible that he experiences the deaths of those around him.

Just some questions for thought.
And put in a ninja.

*EDIT* One more thing. Why is it that big-brain = telepathy? Can't it be more subtle than that? If I had a big brain, or even a normal sized one, the only powers I'd get would be the ability to contemplate my navel better.

Oh, and one more thing. I'm sure you wouldn't mind me writing a short story for this (or at least in that world) to keep me busy, would you?

No big brain. If you got that idea from the «spinal overload» let me explain - we don't use our brain at full capacity and if we did our spine wouldn't hold it so they had to «evolve it».

Stealth - the mod should be in 3rd person so it opens several possibilities. There will be no way to fire weapons directly. You have to control them throw telekinesis = guns flying in the air you pull the trigger.
and the invisibility thing will basically cover most people but by the middle of the story they'll have blockers.

I think something like this could be done in mind vision (it's also the only way to acess minds). And by mind vision I'm basing in BloodRayne's aura vision.

And he can hear voices of people before he finds Michael that teaches him how to block them.

The Stargate projet existed in the 70's/80's (1970-1989). It existed. It had several «special» people that managed to find out locations of hidden places (for example: the military said that there were depots in the middle of LA, they showed them a map and they pointed them accurately.)
They reportedly pinpointed the location of a American gen. kidnaped by the Red Brigades is the 1980's for the rescue mission.

The mouse name is yet undefined. I'm thinking something like Dolly.
X = put_name_here

edit - And by the way I think maybe a limit to the powers would be good - like tele-mana ( please comment on this I was thinking about it and it's like the only way to give the player boundaries, isn't it??)
edit- Or maybe boundaries aren't needed??

Ohhh. That project was named Stargate? I've read on it a little bit. In one instance they encountered problems because they revealed projects the gov't. was hush-hush about when doing reconnaisance on a remote location. One of the <<special>> people saw a paper with the project code name Flyswatter, and he was kicked out of project Stargate after reporting what he saw. That's the only thing I remember about the US's attempts to utilize psychic phenomena.

Well, that's kind of what I'm saying. Who knows for sure how much of our brain is actually being used if no one is sure how the brain works? And why would humanity evolve to be taking advantage of only 10 percent of their brain mass? Simply actively using more of that grey matter at one time is supposed to give us psychic powers? What really bugs me is that the idea has been used and reused. It's not very original.

And by the way I think maybe a limit to the powers would be good - like tele-mana

You could use pure willpower (WP). But maybe that's just me trying to avoid used buzzwords. Or, what would be really cool, is a system without limits except for the mind of the player. And a neural hookup.

Seriously though, the right system could make the possibilities enormous. I can't even begint to plan one yet.

Hehehe. What if the mouse was named X for Xavier?
Look who's being unoriginal now...

Humans use the most part of our brains(that 10% thing is BS). However bigger brains don't mean more intelligent (dolphins hv bigger).

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease suggest something better. That's what this topic is for.

And one shrink thinks that we have telepathy in us (premonitary dreams) in us but we can't use it right.

Or howbout you steal some ideas from Akira. So the character builds up crazy insaneness the more he uses his powers. And He's gotta pop special pills to keep his powers from exploding and turning him into a giant tumour that crushes Neo Tokyo. If you haven't seen Akira, you have to go rent it now, it's basically your idea wrapped up in a really freaky well-animated movie. P.S. if you figure out the ending, please explain it to me.

Okay, here's an idea. Everything is connected by morphic fields, but the cells in normal humans brains (or the rest of their bodies) aren't normally recieving, only transmitting. Genegineering has provided a way to turn those recievers on, enabling the psychic to listen in on thoughts as well as alter the fields.

Telekinesis could be explained as a byproduct of being able to control morphic fields - after a time you are able to sense other fields, such as magnetic and otherwise. Maybe control some Strong Force (an actual term), the force that holds atoms together.

Then again, this is only if you go into it in detail.

I think that telepathic/telekinetic powers would work well on a stamina sytem, with a little bar at the side that drains at various rates depending on the power used and the duration it is used for...

Perhaps you could work in something like the philotes of Orson Scott Card's Ender series. (Assuming you haven't read them, and based on my memory) They are invisible bindings among entities of the universe, allowing (as I recall) for such things as you mention. With a bit of twisting, it could work well, and the Ender series is a great read either way.

Both things are great!

I'm thinking about removing telekinesis to give a more stealthy feel to the whole thing.

As to the WP/MP/stuff-that-means-you-can't-do-lots-of-stuff-in-a-row, I fully agree with Draklyne here: instead of making it number based, base it (behind-the-scenes) on combos--put the focus not on managing "mana," but rather on stringing together dextrous/acrobatic moves that, when chained, allow more powerful/dramatic moves to be added. This would add a great degree of potential for skill development, a focus on said skills, and a barrier for those who would just use really big abilities infrequently.

Combos, hummm...not sure, explain better.... But it looks like the more reasonable idea to substitute «stamina/tele-mana» bars.

Weaponry - police forces: shotguns
small caliber civilian rifle (caseless ammo, 3 round-burst shots and bullpup layout)

SWAT teams : medium caliber assault rifle (magnet-propulsed, very high rate of fire and regular layout)
rail guns as sniper rifles

Special forces/black ops : Heavy weponry like rocket and missile launchers and light machine guns.
plasma rifle (experimental, very arcaic looking and needs to reload after each shot)
rail guns as sniper rifles

An they'll experiment the plasma rifle on you as last resource because you can stop regular bullets with telekinesis.

I need help by the way. Mappers, coders, the works....
An please don't say «it needs revising...»
Say «like this....»

If no one asnwers about this I'll post it on Gen. Off topic

OK that's it!
I need people and no one comes around these forums so I'll post it on Off-topic.

Close this mods!

Dude, you can't expect a plethora of posts in less than two hours.

I didn't.
This topic is here for 2 days.

(It might also not be a great idea to order the mods around.)

I just asked them to close this.

Glad you liked my suggestions tho :)

I still don't have a clear idea on the combos things.

Regardless of the name of the forum, I suggest you not post in "Help Wanted and Offered". It doesn't seem very active.

Or you can be really annoying and post in every forum.

Or every thread.*

*Disclaimer: Advice offered is facetious and flawed in nature. Following advice of this nature is highly contraindicated.

Maybe I'll put something in my sig.

It's about time to change it, no one cares about it now.

And I think I'll be allowed to post on Gen. Off-topic that has lots of moviment.

I will close all your threads if you crosspost, just so you know.

Make homepage or something for the mod, it will get people more interested.

m3 n8t l33t!
I can't pay for a domain!
Everything I need is a few people that support this idea! It is by far the best story for a mod I have seen and it has many original ideas on the gameplay.

If you could close this thread I'll make one in Off-topic surrounding the story. It's not against the rules, is it?

I've asked other mods but they don't answer!

well think of it this way. The more traffic in the forum the faster your topic disappears. I'd say this will last maybe a day or at max two days in off topic. It really can't stand up to John Titor.

You can ask a hl2 site to host you. You can get a url like modname.hl2site.com. You will get more people interested if you got a site with info. It dont need to be nice looking (like mine... but it will change soon :D).

Its still about the mod so please, leave it in General Editing. If you need a team, post in the help wanted forum.

The other mods sucks.

I think I will ask a friend of mine to help me mk it (me=n00b). Thx guys.

cool idea. I'd definatly keep telekinesis in tho. it would take alot of work to pull this off.
