Me and a couple of mates got tried of seeing cheaters on our CS and Medal of Honour server but found it hard to muster up the proof.

Long story short we came to the idea that we install cheats on an old P3 Machine so that it could join the game and spectate through there eyes making it glaringly obvious when they cheat.

We told a couple of guys on the server that we did this and they voiced thier disgust.

Basicaly the point they put accross is that cheats shouldnt be used at any time for any reason. Our view was that if you cant beat them, join them. The P3 is nothing compared to any of our machines and no one would choose to use it over thier own machine.

We've caught out so many cheaters so much faster that it servierly increase the fun other players have on our servers.

What do you guys think? good or bad idea. TBH we'll keep it whatever you guys say but i think its a method that admins should try and adopt in a fashion.

EDIT:: meh its late, sorry about the english

Seem like a good idea to me. I mean its your server after all.

it's better than nothing considering most anti-cheat programs that come out are already found to be flawed within about a week. It bothers me to see so many people cheating. I find a real big problem with cheating is clans. So many clans seem to use them its horrible. Only problem with your idea is most people dont have 2 comps sitting right next to eachother. If they're not u'd be running back and forth and crap, plus if u spectate on 1 comp while playing on other, u'll be ghosting which is in a way cheating too.

What about the cheaters who aren't idiots and don't look directly at people through the walls?

There's also the guys who are genuinely leet and know the map so well as to be able to shoot you through a wall. I think that he means that the extra comp will help with retroactively determining if there was cheating, maybe with a 'kill cam' equivalent?

great idea...pretty good...unless the computer with cheats is sitting behind u...so u keep look back and forth...lol

I believe the idea behind it is to see exactly what he sees, makes it easier to spot a wallhack that way.. although, spotting a wallhacker isn't too hard regardless

and aimbot is just plain obvious

When I play on =VIP= = OLD=Swe server I always die with a head shot from the same dam Player.

My point is many people are cheating and u cannot stop it except if u do a program similar to Valve's one Steam.

Our server is kept up to date with all the latest patches but non the less, cheaters still get in.

I also get the point your trying to make about the "clever cheater" but i know from using these cheats myself (obviously) what cheaters move like. How ever much you dont want to look like your using a wallhack you gain no advantage by trying to fool others that your not using it.

Put it like this, if you could see the guy around the corner would you REALY want to aim away from him giving your hack no advantage over the other guys luck.

On our server we dont warm people or acuse them. We watch them for atleast 15mins and then just ban them. Wallhacks are easier to spot than you would imagine. They generaly do 360's alot then run straight towards the guy. Aimbots are even easier.

Also, yeah ghosting can be a bit of a pain but youve just gota have a bit of self control. If you cant trust yourself then who can you trust.... If i was to ghost on my own server i dont think any of my clan mates would find it that funny either :)

P.S.

I know what you're saying, but there are different types of people who cheat.
Some people are noobs who can't play without them, but others are normally good players who just want a little extra edge. If they play it smart, it would be almost impossible to be sure one way or another.

well the truth is, u will never truely eliminate cheating.. now that being said the idea the creator of this thread came up with isn't too shabby assumming of course pple can afford second computers.

i'd like to add to the idea.. possibly make it somehow mandatory for server owners to have a second comp ready to pick out the cheaters.. and then later post the demo at ur site to show the public.. i do realize this little extension of ur idea may not work cause affording 2 comps isn't that common.

well the answer to cheating is PUNKBUSTER! Although it is not 100% effective it will rid of most cheaters and only experienced hackers will be able to bypass it...

Yeah, Punkbuster does a decent job of deterring most of the idiots that come along, but it of course wont get all of them.
A kill cam ala CoD isn't only cool, its probably one of the best anti-cheating things ever. You can instantly tell exactly how you were killed, cheats or no.
And lastly, some games store all important variables server-side. Tribes 2 did so, and you didn't really see any cheating at all (exploits and cheap methods still existed).

Well, if its working, keep doing it. Anyone who doesn't like you using their cheats against them can always go and play somewhere else can't they. You've said yourself, more fun for the proper players. So all good, nice one :)

great idea AH_viper but then if a server has a special anti-cheating mod installed on it and it scans the server for cheaters then u have a problem...

I think things like Punkbuster are great, but you cant beat having an actual human admin on the server at all times.

Its interesting the point about clever cheaters. Because the newbies will be spotted quite early on, where as better players might not. However, the more you disguise a cheat the less effective it becomes. If a cheater knows there is an admin on the server watching them, then they are either gonna quit, get spotted straight away or hide the fact they are cheating so much they might get 1 extra kill every 5 rounds.
