That sounds pretty accurate, except that in the tunnels vid, one of the grey-masked ones says "Hold it there!" to Alyx and Gordon...

That could have been a mistake on Valve's part. Just accidentally putting in a light-grey-masked soldier instead of a white-masked one would be an easy mistake to do.

It may have been lighting, or heres a surprise, maybe they are adding some alternative skins as to not make it look like they came off a production line.

Still, it could have been a mistake, it's entirely possible. And I bet at least one of the E3 levels was rushed, I bet nearly all of them were custom-made for the presentation so you don't actually get a sneak peek at the game.

I really doubt, them being that close to the game and all, that they'd make a mistake that big.

I think the combine are alien cyborg humans stuff things, and i dont think the striders have a pilot maybe the gunship but not the strider!

I don't think I know something the rest of you don't, I'm just assuming that Valve, being the secret-keepers they are, wouldn't want to give out a sneak peek at the real levels, but would rather create either remade/changed versions of existing levels, or completely new ones. It shows off all the cool tech, and still keeps the game itself under wraps.

And I don't consider putting in a wrong-masked Combine into a demo level to be that huge of a mistake. It would be rather easy to do. Just importing a similarly-named entity and not realizing your mistake. Like monster_combinesoldier_grey instead of monster_combinesoldier_white, unless the Metrocops are named something different.

Or, maybe some of the grey-masked Combine learn English of their own decision?

Maybe the all know english? It would be helpful to their work. And maybe it is a Cop that chased them into the sewers, its not like when they run into a certain area the metrocops are like; "Well thats the military's problem now." And then just turn back. Whatever the outcome he was in the wrong place wrong time. :x

Could be there are three colors of mask right? Black, grey and white. Maybe there is another level we don't yet know about. Like an elite group that patrolls only the sewers....

Well, there's the one that supposedly wears a suit of power-armour, complete with some sort of camera-tentacle, as described in several of the previews (although PC Gamer seemed to think that it was a sort of giant alien.).

I don't think that it was in any of the binks, but in one of the vids that was only shown to magazines and such. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Maybe it's an exoskeleton-style armor suit, like in the Aliens movies.

But then again, the camera-arm could be similar to a Scanner with an extendable neck. So, could it be, essentially, an extremely upgraded Scanner? Kind of like that piece of concept art that I think was labelled "DOG," that thing's head reminds me a lot of a Scanner.

Which brings me around to a new hypothesis, maybe, if that robot really is Dog, Dog could be a modified Combine upgraded-Scanner-bot-thing?

Well since DOG is something that Alyx supposedly created chances are we at sometime in the game will get control. Either that or it will be a completly seprate AI.

Err... sorry, only pic I've seen of it was a spoiler from the beta posted here. I realised what it was immediately, though. There are no official pics of it yet, only several descriptions in different media. I dunno, it might be in the shaky-cam vid. I haven't seen that one.

Yeah, that's what I meant by power-armour. Could even be a HEV derivative.

Dunno. The descriptions seemed to make out that it was some big beefy dude in a metal suit. Apparently he roars, so he might be the Combine equivalent of a berserker, or something.

As for the DOG theory, well, if that really is DOG, then it looks like DOG has been pieced together out of scrap. The head does seem to be a scanner.

Could be. Nobodies really sure yet, not even the journalists. Especially not PC-Gamer, heh.

I think that DOG will be Alyx's pet/assistant/guardian.

Heh, if it is a reprogrammed scanner, then the AI's probably been changed so that "Scan area" and similar things now read "Fetch boy!".

Dog is probably made out of stuff that have scavenged, so it is probably made out of a scanner and other things.
