Interesting. Who knows, maybe a network will pick it up eventually? Kinda worried though how Yahtzee's humour works without his illustrations. I mean they are such a big part of his thing.

the Top Gear of the gaming world? Yahtzee would make a great Clarkson :p

Hah, could be good. Yahtzee was a lot different in the flesh, a bit more droll without the cutesy drawings to brighten up his scathing sarcasm. Also I think his voice may just be too manly. For Australia, anyway. ;)

Looking forward to hearing more on this.

Blag... cam from 20ft away is bad... get back to me when theres a direct feed.

News and previews? Awesome, because it's not like I get them delivered to me instantly through RSS feeds or anything. Thank god for this show!

Fail.

Yahtzee is way played out. The comedy of his reviews got old pretty quickly.

Is anyone else reminded of Rowan Atkinson when Yahzee speaks?

I'll watch it.

Not neccisarily to see Mr. Croshaw be funny but because i like the way he looks at things and behind the comedy i find him to be a pretty good writer.

He is a games developer too you know.

Last I heard he was wanting to get in as a designer, but never went anywhere.

But yeah I don't enjoy Yahtzee as much anymore, and never watch his reviews.

Also I'm not sure if putting game news is good part of the show... Sure, they can try to make it funny, but I'd rather watch some more skits or something.

Tbh making a games show that focusses on humour and 'funnyfunny skits' is a good way to make it fail fast. If you're making what is essentially a comedy show then you're going up against actual comedy and satire series which have a far better idea of what they're doing, as well as a far higher chance of actually being funny. If you settle for being funny but just a lame kind of funny that's only funny to kiddy gamers, and not quite as funny as anything else on TV, then you're essentially making children's television. You may as well make a dogshit-and-broken-glass meringue.

In the different places I have lived, I have never actually seen a TV videogames show that does the basics (news, reviews, etc.) well. It's usually either kiddycentric drivel or it features lame-as-shit presenters who are completely out of tune with their audience. Why is it so hard to have a games show which takes into account that the average gamer is a frugal, cynical late-20 year old who just wants some no-BS info and some opinions he might sometimes be able to consider reliable? Kind of like the TV equivalent of the Edge of old.

Contrary to the opinions in this thread, ie. that covering news, etc. is a waste of time, IMO those things are exactly what any new gaming program should try to do well, instead of trying to do the whole 'videogames show with a TWIST!' thing in the form of 'funnyfunny skits' and other gimmicks. Of course in terms of sheer usefulness, such a no-frills show is always going to lose out to the internet, but that's true of any informational television. The trick is to make up the deficit with polish, professionalism, authority of opinion and sparing use of well-calculated wit.

I think Yahtzee is great and I love ZP every week. However if anything I think his droll humour should be de-emphasised in any show that features him. Seeing him reel off gag after gag in the flesh (topical or not), while the dull camerawork shows the other 2 guys giggling at him, is like watching a castrated version of ZP with no illustrations and canned laughter added. Instead of trying to make the world laugh, they should keep gaming information as their lynchpin - game reviews, previews, chat about specific games, gaming topical discussion, interviews, retrospectives, features and featurettes. Then let the humour and cynicism OOZE through the cracks as a natural side effect of having Yahtzee around. Drop the skits altogether - either that or use them as extremely brief links between sections. Tbh if I just want game-related comedy while listening to an opinion I know is pretty unsound, I'd take ZP over what they're offering any day.

IMO it's pointless trying to go for 'a videogames show with a difference' when I still haven't yet seen anything that has really nailed the 'videogames show' bit properly.

Last I heard he was wanting to get in as a designer, but never went anywhere.

I believe he is now working with pandemic studios in brisbane

Wow, I love Zero Punctuation but he is a REALLY bad TV presenter.

That was hard to watch.

^ The guy to the right looks a lot like a participant on the Yo Momma episode I saw today. Coincidence?

Also, Top Gear has funny presenters. This is just Yahtzee + two parasites.

Honestly I've always thought that Yahtzee was overrated. This doesn't sway my opinions otherwise.

Crappy quality is crappy, so this is the link to the high quality.

Yeah, I took a look at this earlier, after the new ZP plugged it. As I predicted in my earlier post, the skits and sketches are a complete waste of time. They make me feel like I'm watching an episode of ChuckleVision or something. They're fine if you're aiming to make a kids' TV show, but what 11 year old is going to care about PC adventure game retrospectives and opinion pieces about style over substance in gaming (which were the one thing the show did slighly well)?

The 3-guys-on-a-couch format is unnatural as hell. They need something which will make their attention seem divided between the viewer and eachother; a kind of chatty newsroom feel, as opposed to the forced obeisance to the camera that they have at the moment.

Also they appear to be trying too hard to be funny and avoid sycophantism, yet at the same time it feels like they're too gutless and lacking in assurance. An example of this contradiction: they go out of their way to make it clear how unimpressed they are with WoW, yet in the overview about fancy physics being an excuse for lack of depth, not a single game was mentioned by name - so not only did that section feel pussified and aimless, it was uninformative to boot. Having said that those little monologue bits, where the guys weren't forcing themselves to interact with eachother, felt by far the most polished bits of the show and were the only parts that were at all interesting.

I still think there might be some promise there, but a hell of a lot of drek would need to be scraped off. Having seen the whole thing I am starting to sympathise with the idea that Yahtzee isn't a natural presenter at all, and I still claim that they're totally misguided in aiming for this whole 'videogames show with a difference' thing. Just do a goddamn by-the-numbers videogames show (with *gasp* reviews!) and stop being so arsing pretentious, especially when there's nothing highbrow about the content.

They've got a forum, taking suggestions.
Either way I've got worse ways to throw time.

Wasnt THAT bad, could be a lot better but still ok for a 1st episode!

*facepalm* Yeah there were cute parts, but that's not going to last long if it continues as disorganized as it came off. Also, all the reviews were negative. If there was a positive review, it was short and lacked any substance.

Just to try and be a "little" nice cos its yahtzee and i'm biased I'll say it certainly has potential but it really wasn't great.

Oh, oh it's awkward. Oh god.

Few things to add:

- Yahtzee needs to learn to shut up. Seriously. Not everything requires a witty follow-up or derisive remark, especially not when you're interrupting your co-hosts 90% of the time, or even saying it at their expense ("oh, that's interesting" - yeah, rub it in).

- Yug constantly looks like he's just climbed out of a dumpster or survived a large explosion. I know it's a cheap complaint but, damn, do something with your hair, or at least lower your ****ing eyebrows once in a while. Creepin' me out.

- ****ing get organised. Okay, it's just a pilot, but constantly talking over one another or forgetting vital bits (in really obvious ways) just makes it seem sloppy. The open forum style of speech/presentation might have worked if they could actually speak naturally and at length about topics, but even their disagreements were uninteresting. "I like this thing." "I dislike this thing." "Moving on." A bit of point, counter-point at least?

Anyway, I should probably be posting this on their boards, but I haven't the heart. :(

Yahtzee is apparently a bit of a grumpy cock all the time.

Cross-post it on their forums doods or they'll never ****ing improve.
