Please read our announcement:

[Thread closed by Abom]

Ok, I will read it for you, since you seem to be confused about the text of it.

Do not:

Request the illegal release or post download links.
Post or request links to sites hosting any content from the release.
Post screenshots of the release.
Post spoilers or information contained in the release.

The thread you closed was A LINK TO THE PHL STORY WHICH SAYS THAT AN ADDITIONAL LEAK HAS OCCURED. Explain to me EXACTLY which of the above rules were broken by posting a link to that PHL story.

Trying to pretend that leaks aren't happening is pretty f*cking rediculous. There's a difference between threads that post news and threads that promote illegal downloads. Please try to stop making this forum completely f*cking useless.

Post or request links to sites hosting any content from the release.

The above rule was violated moron they have a snippit of what was in the readme on the site you posted which fits the bill as 'content from the release'

You should add one more rule to the sticky:

~Questioning a moderator is grounds for bannishment~

That should shut everyone up!

OK smartass, how about this NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS thread wherein a LINK directs a user to a post by A VALVE EMPLOYEE who BLATANTLY POSTS QUOTES from the HACKED RELEASE:

http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11963

CALL OUT THE ABOM POLICE!!!!!!! Dipsh*t.

I am getting so sick and tired of idiots like you who think that you know better than what I do. Do you want me to post the guidelines we have recieved in the Staff Forum regarding this issue? Well, here you go then:

"Do whatever you have to do - edit/close/remove just keep the forums clean of 'beta' related threads. I don't want to see screenshots, spoilers, download links, people saying "OMG THE BETA IS LEET", "what's the hl2 file size?", "Come to my forums away from these nazi admins that don't support our illegal actions", etc."

Keep the forums clean of 'beta' related threads. This means everything, absolutely everything, and just because you feel otherwise does not mean we're going to change this. Deal with it, or get lost.

Well, yeah, the announcement doesnt really apply to that... (or at least, that's my personal meaning). However, one of the other threads on the topics could easily be used, we dont need 100 threads on the same topic (which there always tend to be as people post faster than one can close, so lets say we dont need 101).

So my meaning:
Was it the right reason given? No, not really.
Was it right to close it? Yes.
Still, that's only what I think.

Edit: Abom was faster, darn. Zero tolerance, yep, sadly I cant be that harsh, its not in my nature ;( Well, maybe sometimes

Hehehe you should sticky this.

If you take it THAT literally, then you can stop posting links to CNN.COM, MSNBC, INQUIRER.NET, BBC.COM, and EVERY OTHER NEWS SOURCE ON THE PLANET that might happen to report the news that content/source have been leaked from Valve.

You need to get a grip on how to distinguish between discussion of illegal data, and actual news. A lot of us don't want ot hear details about betas, or spoilers. However, most/all of us are interested in knowing that leaks ARE HAPPENING. Closing a thread because it links to an article on PHL that claims there was another leak is bullsh*t.

Who is the Staff Leader? Who posted that?

um...that's a bit extreme no? i understand screenshots/info/links but posting to a story ABOUT It - eg valve's statement :\

who cares? just follow the rules! it's not a big deal. It's not like they are banning every person that uses the word noob (although they prolly should :) )

That would be Munro. dscowboy, if you're so passionate about this issue, I suggest you take it up with Munro himself, rather than bitch at me. I think what's being followed at the moment is perfectly acceptable, though.

Still, that's only what I think.

99.9% of the posts in this forum contain no useful information whatsoever. I'm not about to wade through the thick morass of 300 post threads every day, searching for a link to REAL NEWS. When there is new information about HL2, THERE SHOULD BE A NEW THREAD ON IT, PERIOD.

This BS about lumping everything into one thread is idiotic. Why don't we just make three threads then? One for "I HATE VALVE", one for "QUESTIONS ABOUT HL2", and one for "OTHER THINGS RELATING TO HL2 AND MY CAT", and then force everyone to post in those threads, and everyone to wade through the thousands of posts in those three threads in order to find anything.

A policy against creating a new thread for new info is friking clueless.

Ah Hyped, I wondered when you'd turn up. All present and correct though, eh? Wonderful.

You mods are way too soft. If I was a mod, I would ban anyone who did not adress me as "Sir, Lord Protectorate Netherscourge, Sir..."

And I would keep the thread opened of banned members so I could laugh at them as they cry behind their blocked IP addresses.

:sniper:

The Munro policy you quoted was against discussion of details of the beta, how to download it, how to run it, spoilers, etc. I don't have a problem with that policy. I applaud the job that mods do eliminating this stuff.

Closing threads that link to a news article that claims that a new leak has occured is WAY OVERBOARD.

Oh yes, such amazing logic there. Everyone who disagrees with the way you moderate these forums is an "idiot." Heaven forbid someone call you out when you moderate this place according to personal bias, and then try to hide behind *unambiguous* rules. Remember that little weakness of yours that involves reading comprehension? Well, here it is again rearing its ugly head.

Here is something to throw into the crap-fest...

Is CNN or Al Jazeera right or wrong when they show Osama Bin Ladin tapes that praise terrorists and have hidden messages in them? If it's wrong, why do they show the tapes?

Personal bias? Bias such as wanting to restrict illegal material talk? Hmm, well, lock me up and throw away the fricking key! I also love it how you're mithering on about this whole reading comprehension thing as well, I mean, it must be dropping significantly thanks to the bollocks I have to read from the likes of people like you

In fact, take this to a PM if you have a personal issue with me, Hyped. This thread is officially closed.
