I know most people don't like antlions anymore, I agree it's enough. But the antlion worker was really used very few times, and it's probably never going to be used again. Half Life 2 + EP1 + EP2 are around 30 hours of gameplay. You get to fight workers for only 2 hours. EP3 is not even going to take place near antlions too. So, even if we really had enough of antlions, should the worker have been used more? It was used in the short antlion hive section, then it's never going to be used again, because we are of course never visiting an antlion hive again. It's also a very interesting, fun and hard enemy. Do you think those 2 hours were enough?

I really wanted to control them since the worker is already coded to be bugbait'd.

Well anyway they were a fearsome new antlion unit and I liked how they didn't rush at you unlike the normal soldiers.

Sooo... like you said, guess were done with them :hmph:

I personally believe that we will be seeing antlions in ep3 even though it sounds stupid since it takes place in the arctic but I just have a feeling that Valve will put them in somehow. After all we need a third enemy type other than zombies and Combine which antlions were used for but Valve did say that there will be new enemies in ep3, so maybe we will be seeing some new creatures to replace antlions.

there's gonna be more antlions; it's become almost a cliche of the new Half-life games, like explosive barrels. There weren't actually very many barrels in HL1, were there?

I HATE Antlions. I got pissed off at them so much. Thank God we won't see many in Ep3.

We better not.

Instead of Antlions, we will have ICELIONS!! BEWARE THEIR ICY BITE!!!1

Yeah some new creature or even just something that was cut would be cool - like the Combine Guards.

I predict antlions will be replaced with ice worms

I dont know about normal antlions, but the poison ones explode when a barnacle bites it. I was all O_O because I was expecting it to spit it out lol.

Barnacles die when the worker explodes. I almost literally lolled when I saw that.

When you say worker antlions, are you talking about the ones that spit acid? I think they're fun to fight against, especially now that the two 'classes' are mixed. The regular chaps still charge blindly, but the 'acid lions' (that's what the vortigaunt called them) are a lot of fun to play. They hide well, make the occasional flight around the area (for a quick shot out of the air if you're fast) and will ruin you in a hurry with their acid attack. I think they're okay.

I could see their AI being salvaged and incorporated into a Bullsquid revival. Same basic idea, though probably less airbourne. The commentary even name drops the Bullsquid when talking about the Worker.

The Black Mesa mod people should look at the worker very closely when the Episode 2 SDK comes out...

They were pretty cool, but after a while they got really really god-damned annoying. It was a good thing you could waste them in a double-shotgun to the face.

While ant lions are ok, and sometimes neat to fight against, I felt the worker was done weirdly.

I sort of understand they use acid to dig tunnels and stuff, but why are they TOUGHER than the ones used to defend the nest? Shouldn't it be the other way around? And why can they fly at all...

Also I was hoping that instead of the grubs giving you magic health (though, that MAY be the source of the green stuff in those medkits...), that we'd see Xen pools. Would be a nice way to wrap up where they came from in HL1 on Xen, and give Xen a more "believable" eco system. We all know that creatures where teleported to Xen via natural portal storms that occur in some worlds, and the creatures that could survive in the environment did and those that did not died out, and eventually a system formed itself, so why can't see things fleshed out this way?

I dont know how they fly with those stubby little wings on em...its against the laws of physics...unless...its Theoretical Physics, in which case, Gordon should be expecting that kinda crap...

Stubby wings? They're pretty big, from what I can tell.

They're just transparent, like dragonfly wings. And the worker doesn't way much at all, the whole body is just a big vial of some acidic liquid. And they never spend more then 3 second sin the air anyway, like chickens.

Perfectly following the laws of physics.

i don't believe we'll see more ant-lions in EP3, Valve choosed to take us through their hive, see their eggs, the younglings (those funny larvas i love to step on) and so forth, so i guess EP2 was more or less a goodbye-Antlion part :)

But we won't get rid of the headcrabs at least, and maybe see Bullsquids, yarr
