Since HL2 isn't coming out anytime soon is Jedi Academy kick ass?

I played Outkast and that rocked.

I found it OMFG WOW good, but this belongs in "off topic"

i read the reviews that said

"its the same as JKII"

"attack of the cloned games"

"67%"

they kinda stopped me from picking it up.

those reviews are bullshit, its one of the better games I have played in a long long time. and I am NOT a easy sell, I didnt like jk2(df3).

it plays amazingly, and has a very good force/level system. great game.

Though its offtopic, I might fill in a little bit:
JKA is a lousy game when JKII is taken into consideration. If you skip that, its a great game. If it would have come out a 6-12 months ago, it would have been a great game. Overall it WOULD have been a great game.

It isnt.

Its got very dated graphics, far to short, far to much killing (you rarely need to use your force powers to solve puzzles!) and far to little innovation. I read that it was using the Q3A engine because the developers had "learned" to use it with JKII and wanted to put their expertise to work. I see nothing of this in the game.

However...

The charactar creation system is cool, choices are good. The mission selection is kind of unique. And you get to wield dual light sabers.

Edit: And for anyone thinking I'm dissing it just because of the old Q3 engine: EF2 was an awesome game, that did what JKA should have done.

what i didn't like is how the jedi you play has this stupid ass character.. in the cutscenes he/she says the dumbest stuff... grrr.

graphics don't make a game fun

really? Do you know of any other Q3 engine games with ragdoll physics? JKA has them. It's not HL2 or UT2k3 but it's there

Graphics help. Not only does JKA use the Q3A engine, they use it in a horrible way on most levels (though some are quite good). It really doesnt justify the poor performance. Ragdoll doesnt have anything to do with graphics anyway :dozey:

The dynamic shadowing on the other does, and it looks pretty good (note, on enemies, the player was so close you could easily spot the flaws in the system).

While I agree that the Q3A engine is on it's last legs I think they did a lot more with the engine this time around. Especially with the lightsaber effects.

The game is pretty short, took me about a week at 2 hours a night to finish it. I've not played it MP yet, but the dual mode in JKII was fun.

Overall I think it's above average but nothing to rave about really.

Ho hum :dozey:

If you liked JKII you will like Academy. Pretty much the same engine with a few slight enhancements to the graphical affects of force powers, and you get a sabre at the start. Also later on you can choose to wield a Sabre staff or dual sabres.

It’s good and fun, but not radically different from Outcast. I’m enjoying it though, and currently on my second run through.

Bottom line if you liked Outcast and fancy more of the same, then buy it. Otherwise don’t.

It was -okay-.. put it this way, Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight was more interesting. True, the lightsaber system with the dual sabers and staff saber is cool but it's nothing great over Outcast, which wasn't near as good as the original.

My score: 6/10.
(Outcast was 7/10 and JK1 was 8/10)

Might as well do other games coming out soon, nowish, what ever (I'm bored hehe):
Halo PC - Nothing new, not worth it if you have Xbox version. Xbox ver: 6/10, PC Ver: 5/10
Knights of the Old Republic: Great! If you have Xbox version, then there's no need to get it for PC. Score: 8.5/10
Max Payne 2: Haven't played it, can't really give a score. Max Payne 1 was a 8/10 - short but sweet. This one looks to be interesting though.

Umm, I can't think of anything else that is coming out before November hits.

i got outcast the day it came out and completed it 2days after. i thought it was gr8 lightsaber action and the bots were cool and the mods got better.

but academy i played and is POO!

i mean graphics look worse, plays the same. no change exsepy lightsabers! lol

It does NOT have ragdoll psyhics. Just good scripting deaths. all deaths are scripted.

You'll know this becasue if you kill a enemy next to say a ledge/stairs his body will sit straight off it, though sometimes the scripting will have the body "bent".

No, they have ragdoll. You should see some of the positions I managed to kill them in :) (how about one being squezed between a chair of some type and a desk, he was bent in half (backways) with legs straight up).

Either that or I just hallucinated while playing, thinking it was HL2 :P

That is so true, the combat system is a clone of JK2's, edited slightly.
And believe me, JK2's saber combat system was as mundane as it got.
